Sixteen years ago today...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 21 April 2015 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

...we began a five-month-long trip to mark our 40th wedding anniversary.
We drove west, took an Alaskan ferry from Washington state to Haines,
stayed in AK for six weeks before driving back through Canada and home.
The map is marked to document our 18,510 mile drive [29,789 km], and
with all those miles, we never saw even ONE accident!
We are so thankful we traveled while we could!

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

@Doug: Yes, Doug ... we count our blessings daily!!!

Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(Old West Wales lad), Germany

What an amazing trip and a lot of miles. Are we going to get to see some roadtrip shots ?

21 Apr 2015 9:15am

@Anthony Morgan Lambert: Considering this was in 1999 and my first digital camera took 640 x 480 pixel shots, they were great for an online (and later printed) journal, but nothing to write home about now. <grin>
(In my archive under Alaska are some shots from the trip.)

beach from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

That was some trip. I bet you enjoyed it. The pictures must have been spectacular. Blessed memories.

@beach: Thank you, Beach ... for this and for all of your comments. The low-quality 640 x 480 pixel images of the early Sony Mavica gave us recorded memories rather than quality images.

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

Nice but you missed the most important many photographs did you take?

21 Apr 2015 2:44pm

@Robert D. Burr: Ha, ha ... not as many as I would if I could repeat the trip today, with a much better camera! ;D

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

Happy ANniversary and I envy you taking such a wonderful trip.

21 Apr 2015 4:46pm

@Ruthiebear: We just struck out and decided it was something we wanted to experience and we've never regretted it!

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Wow!! What an excursion of a lifetime the two of you took!! You must have seen some beautiful scenery along the way!

21 Apr 2015 6:47pm

@Steven: Hardly a day passes without reference to something we saw during that trip. Or we'll see something on TV that reminds us of a sight we saw.

RBL from Oxford, United States

Amazing journey to share with your husband 16 years ago. A wonderful way to spend your Wedding Anniversary.

21 Apr 2015 11:34pm

@RBL: Not everyone gets to have a 5.5 month-long anniversary celebration! <grin>
