Gently slapping...

...the shore in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, water from the Atlantic sweeps into Sandy Hook Bay. This area sustained major flooding and damage when Hurricane Sandy hit last year at the end of October.
Recently, NJ suffered more damage with the terrible Boardwalk fire in Seaside Heights, after just rebuilding; here NJ Governor Christie views some of the damage.

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

Your picture restores a sense of calm to an area that has seen so much upheaval.

@Curly: Thanks, Curly ... and a much needed calm it is!

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

There is something seductive and relaxing about the gentle lapping of the water against the shore! You have captured this mood perfectly Judy! Bravo! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks, Eric; perhaps "lapping" is better than my slapping. ;D This tiny bit of sound as those ripples 'break' is difficult to describe.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Not "slapping", but "singing"! The ocean is singing after so many "events"!

@Japanalia: Good point! ;D (Vic. Catalonia) from CAT. New European State, Poland

In spite of all, a photograph relaxing. An angle well searched .

@Don: Thanks, Don; no matter what we call it, right? ;D

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United Kingdom

That old Ocean certainly gets around, it was slapping/lapping or whatever around our coastline a little while ago, nicely captured...And thanks for the Fuji info. ;>)

@Jeff: Thank you, Jeff. Happy to share the info; I sent a message to Curly about it too. ;D

Oh no.hope the boardwalk gets repaired looking at the gentle slapping of waves, calms me :)♥♥

20 Sep 2013 5:19pm

@tyan: The water was mesmerizing that evening and made it difficult to imagine how ferocious it could be. As for the boardwalk, I imagine the clean up has already begun and rebuilding will follow.

My hubby works in Atlantic Highlands. It is a lovely spot with a delightful harbor. Yes the fire was a real upset.

20 Sep 2013 5:52pm

@Ruthiebear: That's a fair commute for your hubby. Does he travel 195 > Garden State & north? The marina is about 6 mi from our daughter's home in Fair Haven.

franz from Baden, Austria

fine layers of colours and textues and the elements! i hadn't heard of the boardwalk fire ... seems that when fate strikes, it doesn't do so only once ...

20 Sep 2013 6:01pm

@franz: So often it can happen that way ...
