2 days after graduation...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 26 May 2013 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

...from medical school, a driver sideswiped our granddaughter Bridget's car, forcing her into a tree, and totalling her Volvo.
(The impact w/the tree took the right front wheel & tire off; they were several yards away.)
The other car had right rear fender damage, but the driver, a medical professional, never checked on Bridget's welfare, and she was taken away by ambulance!
Thankfully, she suffered a broken nose, two badly blackened eyes, a very sore body, but nothing worse, though a concussion was questioned.

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Oh my goodness, this is really shocking Judy, what an awful thing to happen after such a wonderful celebration. I hope she recovers well Judy and the other driver feels guilty enough to own up and face the consequences

26 May 2013 7:57am

@Doug: I agree, truly shocking that the accident happened, but equally so, the lack of concern from the other driver, who is an orthodontist.

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

Looks like a good reason to drive a Volvo - so relieved to read Bridget escaped more serious injury.

26 May 2013 8:30am

@Ronnie 2¢: Thanks, Ronnie ... and I couldn't agree more!

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

Oh ...poor...! And a big fright afterward ...And for all the family !! My best wishes for a speedy recovery !

26 May 2013 9:22am

@Mhelene: Thanks ... the bruises will heal; the emotional trauma may take a little longer.

Lai Chan See from Singapore, Singapore

That was really nasty. Hope Bridget is recovering well. Good documentery shots.

26 May 2013 10:10am

@Lai Chan See: Thank you, Chan See. Bridget is recovering slowly and had exciting times ahead of her working as a pediatric resident in a NY hospital in another week.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

How absolutely chilling. But thanks be to God, a relatively happy ending. I do admit I have no warm feelings toward the one who did not check on her welfare. But I am so grateful that Bridget is pretty much ok.

26 May 2013 11:20am

@Viewfinder: Amen, Glenn ... and can you believe the other driver is a 66 yr old orthodontist in the town where this happened, a father of four. I'm having trouble with my own anger over that. ;(

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Thanks God that SHE is alive and pretty well, considering what I see in these shots! Now she is LUCKY! Really lucky! To prevent such nasty things in the future, she should drive a Jeep...you know that kind of cars explorers use in the jungle!

26 May 2013 1:05pm

@Japanalia: You are right, Gabriela ... God was looking over Bridget; she could have been injured far worse. We're thankful that she was driving a Volvo, which is far more sturdy in an accident than many other cars.

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

Oh Judy! How terrifying! I am glad she is not too badly hurt. I am sure she is upset by the experience. My prayers are with her and the family.

26 May 2013 8:57pm

@Ruthiebear: Thanks so much, Ruthie ... and I appreciate your prayers. God did look out for her; it could have been so very much worse than it was.

Carol from United States

I am so sorry to hear this. Glad she is sort of ok....God is still in control. When does she report to NY? Hopefully her injuries will be healed by then. Susan must be devastated.

26 May 2013 10:26pm

@Carol: Thanks, Carol ... and I emailed you.

Abena from Illinois, United States

That is absolutely horrible!! I'm amazed and horrified at the other driver to do this too. Gee, I'm sorry to hear about it but thank god she's alright.

27 May 2013 1:12am

@Abena: Thanks, Abena ... we're so thankful as well. xo

BiLL from Belfast, United Kingdom

Shocking photos! Glad to hear that your granddaughter wasn't seriously hurt.

28 May 2013 1:00pm

@BiLL: Thank you, Bill ... we are most grateful she was hurt more seriously.

franz from Baden, Austria

no, i did not see this ... don't know how i could have missed it! how horrible, such a short time after the great day, and yet it could have been much, much worse. so i guess you could say she was quite lucky under the circumstances! but who wants circumstances like this ?!?
a speedy recovery to bridget, both in body and mind, and may there be no repercussions later on ...

29 May 2013 8:48am

@franz: She really was so fortunate to be driving the Volvo her dad bought her; it certainly helped keep her from more serious injuries.
I'm so short on time to be commenting and I want to go through your NS photos when I have more time.

Joyce from Montana, United States

Appalling images. How quickly things can change, yes? It's curious and unnatural that the driver did not check her state. Must have been out of his mind one way or the other. Thank God she is not critically injured.

31 May 2013 1:26pm

@Joyce: Thank you, Joyce, and I'm sorry for the delay in replying. We tend to agree w/you that the doctor may have been totally shocked, and not acting appropriately.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

I'm quite shocked that a medical professional could behave this way!

2 Jun 2013 9:41am

@Curly: Thanks, Curly ... we are shocked also. The doctor who hit our granddaughter lives less than a half-mile from the tree he pushed her into, and the tree is on the property of another doctor. HOW can that man live with himself?

RBL from Oxford, United States

Wow ... that's horrible; thank goodness with a good ending and not hospitalized!

17 Sep 2013 11:26pm

@RBL: She was truly blessed! ;D
