Our new commitment...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 12 September 2012 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

...after 53 years of marriage, we are trying to walk at least one mile every day, six days each week. See the dirt on my shoes? Proof positive! ;D

PS: This commitment is to thank our daughter and her family, for urging us forward. ;D

FUJIFILM FinePix HS30EXR 1/28 second F/3.6 ISO 1250 10 mm

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

@Luke: Thanks, Luke.

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Good idea Judy and doing it together makes it more enjoyable

12 Sep 2012 6:42am

@Doug: You've got that right; I'm happier in the team effort.

Loner from Wörgl, Austria

Es ist nie zu spät um sportlich aktiv zu sein und zu zweit geht es natürlich besser ! Mit den besten Wünschen von Sonja ! Nur nicht aufgeben !

12 Sep 2012 6:45am

@Loner: Thank you so much, Sonja, and I agree, it's so good to have Mike's support and company while I walk!

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

God for you two!!! This way you'll be here to celebrate each your 100th birthday!....but you'll need many pairs of shoes!

12 Sep 2012 6:48am

@Japanalia: Ha, ha ... 100? I don't know about that, but i hope as long as we stick around that we can be as healthy as possible. ♥

Juliana from Bourges, France

Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(Old West Wales Boy), Germany

Keeping active keeps you young, don´t forget to take a camera on your walks though !!

12 Sep 2012 9:18am

@Anthony Morgan Lambert: If there were anything interesting in our neighborhood, I would. ;(

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

Good on yer! As encouragement, lemme tell you my story. Whilst I am younger than you, I started to walk every day-mainly, it has to be said as an excuse to get out of the house(I mainly work from home). With no expectation of anything happening, the following did...I lost 20lbs, my pre-diabetic sugar levels went to normal, and a tendency to think negatively....evaporated. And, this was on just a few miles a day! I wanna see those shoes, dirty, mucky, in need of replacement very, very soon!!!!!

12 Sep 2012 9:22am

@CElliottUK: Thank you so much, Chris; I appreciate your story. At 79 & 74, we are late getting a start on an exercise regime, but 'they say' it's never too late to start. I dislike exercise with a passion, but know I have to act in spite of that. Hopefully I can drop some weight and lower my sugar too. As for the 'negativity' ... I need to work on my dislike of getting out there! ;D

Ralph Jones from Detroit, United States

May the road rise with you!

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

What a great idea! I've been walking with Joy in my sling when the boys are in school in an attempt to lose my post-natal weight. It's good exercise, and I think it's a huge step to healthy living!:)

12 Sep 2012 12:39pm

@tyan: I hope you enjoy your walking more than I do ... I'm forever looking for excuses, and of course the horribly high humidity has made it very difficult for me to breathe.

Rick from Toronto, Canada

Good for you ! Take care of the legs and the rest will follow, I always say ;-) Nice shot for the topic. I walk and cycle constantly : not only does it feel great but the long term benefits are assured (as long as I don't get hit by a bus on my way to the recreational trails!)

12 Sep 2012 3:00pm

@Rick: You 'fellows' who love exercise never cease to amaze me ... I need to get beyond the 'punishment' phase. ;( My brain knows all about the benefits, but my body fights it every inch of the way.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

Happy, happy Anniversary! And many, many blessings. I'm realizing that when you and Mike were first married, I was 10 years old (if my math is right). Oh, and congrats too on your commitment, and this great photo!

12 Sep 2012 3:27pm

@Viewfinder: Thank you, Glenn ... hey, remember, we're 79 & 74 ... of course you were 10 when we married! ;D

Don from Spokane, United States

I like the color scheme of your walking shoes. I'm impressed at your marriage length and your current resolve to walk more.
Nice shot.

12 Sep 2012 3:32pm

@Don: Thanks, Don ... we're fighting to do it better than we had been.

ruthiebear from Titusville,NJ, United States

Good shot and good luck on your good decision!

12 Sep 2012 5:34pm

@ruthiebear: Thanks, Ruthie.

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United Kingdom

Snap !!! , We bought a couple of alpine sticks, and plan our walks with rest places a prime consideration,so even with mobility problems it can be done, just keep it going and think of the shots you can take for Am3. ;>)

12 Sep 2012 5:43pm

@Jeff: Hmm, 'alpine sticks' sound like a great idea. Unfortunately on our walks, there is NO place to sit and rest, and it the heat that's tough! ;D

RBL from Oxford, United States

Fantastic task and inspiration for others ~ nicely detailed photo too! Best wishes :)

12 Sep 2012 7:47pm

@RBL: Thanks so much!

franz from Baden, Austria

very good plan, and i'm sure you'll go through with it! the safest way, of course, would be to get a dog that loves long walks ... don't know if yours does ...
(and remember what they say about "good intentions" ... ;-))

12 Sep 2012 8:38pm

@franz: Our little dog loves to go out with us ... and I do know to be aware of "good intentions"!

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

Way to go. Good luck with this project.

13 Sep 2012 12:23am

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Great advertisement for Nike captured here. :-) Good plan for your overall health! Hopefully I'll undertake the same initiative soon!

13 Sep 2012 2:40am

@Steven: Go for it, Steve ... I remind myself that this is not a dress rehearsal! ;D

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Great idea, keep it going!

13 Sep 2012 10:50am

Joyce from Montana, United States

Fun shot, and a nice composition of shapes and texture and color. I like your message and salute you too. Daily walks are awesome good illness prevention and life extension, and don't cost but a good pair of tennies.

14 Sep 2012 1:12pm

@Joyce: Thanks, Joyce. I so dislike exercise, but the older I grow, the more I know I need to bite the proverbial 'bullet'. ;D

Barbara from Florida, United States

The commitment of walking together will make a mile seem shorter. As your shoe says "dual fusion" which I translate as, together is power. Happy walking, enjoy natures scenes along the way.
