Life Happening...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 9 May 2012 in Transportation and Portfolio. Brooksville, Florida, on May 5, 2012.

This Aeromed 3 medical rescue helicopter from Tampa General Hospital, an hour's drive south of us, is lifting off from the high school two blocks north of us. This hand-held shot was taken while they were moving at quite a good speed, heading west. Thanks to the training of the pilot and paramedics, hopefully the person in trouble will have their precious life renewed/restored/saved.

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

Excellent capture. I hope it was a training flight

9 May 2012 8:21am

@CElliottUK: Thanks, Chris, but no, it was a rescue mission for sure!

Mhelene from Paris, France

Great capture . They save many lives !

9 May 2012 9:34am

@Mhelene: Yes, they do save so many with their rapid response and flight time!

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

We have a similar service here in Alberta called STARS! For over 25 years they have saved many lives due to their ability to react quickly and speedily transport their patients to hospital! A super capture Judy! ;-)

9 May 2012 11:25am

@Eric Cousineau: Thank you, Eric, and although your link isn't active, I was able to copy/paste the URL and see your Wikipedia STARS article. Back in Mike's day, the FD rescue truck he drove was the fastest transport to a hospital, and still is for many, but the chopper rescues are known 'round the world now.

Elsabe from Johannesburg - Fourways, South Africa

A brilliant "action" shot. It is not easy to take shots like this, but you have managed to frame it perfectly.
Well done !!

@Elsabe: Thank you very much, Elsabe. I appreciate your comment.

Joyce from Montana, United States

Nicely captured! and I like your description. Helicopters are really heroes lifting people here up and over the mountains to hospitals in only a few minutes where in a ground vehicle it can take hours. They monitor wildfires and drag huge bags of water to dump on them. It's nice to give them a moment of appreciation.

9 May 2012 12:53pm

@Joyce: Thanks, Joyce. I can only imagine how these pilots have to navigate not only the mountains, but the air turbulence around them, especially in bad weather.
Mike drove the fire department rescue truck in our town in CT for thirteen years, so we have a keen appreciation for any and all in the field of medical rescue ... also have a dear friend whose husband and two others died in a chopper rescue mission in CA.

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

Nice life happening catch.

9 May 2012 1:29pm

@B. Thomas: Thanks, Barbara.

Rick from Toronto, Canada

An excellent action shot, and very detailed. We have many downtown hospitals that are helicopter emergency oriented, and I often think of the lives saved.

9 May 2012 1:42pm

@Rick: Thanks, Rick ... it's a sometimes dangerous but today such a necessary transport method. We don't have your ice & snow conditions, but we DO have dangerous thunderstorms.

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

Still very clear though you say it was moving fast! There is a real sense of mission here,I hope the person/s will be safe!:)

9 May 2012 1:43pm

@tyan: It was moving very fast and in one of my shots it goes right over our tree. My hands were still moving along with him and all you see in the shot is a blur of leaves. <grin>

Lena from San Francisco, United States

great capture action shot.

@Lena: Thank you, Lena.

@Viewfinder: Thank you, Glenn.

Julie L. Brown from Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

Nice capture, Judy. That is not easy.

10 May 2012 2:22am

@Julie L. Brown: Thanks, Julie ... *smile*

omid from mashhad, Iran

very nice!

franz from Baden, Austria

great capture, judy, so sharp and in good light - not easy against the bright sky!
near my house there's a big hospital, too, and we can see the helicopters land and take off almost every day. amazing what they do in all conditions ...

10 May 2012 5:53pm

@franz: Thank you, Franz ... we don't see them daily, but on May 5th, it was amazing to see them twice.

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

Excellent photo for this theme! Everyday, people's lives are saved by these heroes and it nice to show them our appreciation.

10 May 2012 9:35pm

@Don Levesque: Thank you so much, Don. It isn't my best photo ever, but it certainly was 'life happening' over our back yard last Saturday!
