...a favorite old shot of two young raccoons who just couldn't resist eating the fruit of our Pindo Palm in the back yard. We wondered where their mama was, and why she let them go 'out to play' in the daytime. They eventually ate every bit of fruit! 1998

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

wow...raccoons...I used to have some of these creatures coming in my backyard every night, I can't say that I like them much...but these are great captures, so I like your photos...
New giant layout allows lots of creativity, I like that...

15 Feb 2012 5:55am

@Maria: Thanks, Maria. I've always shyed away from adult raccoons, but these younguns' were so cute. They just sat there and ate, and ate, and ate! ... Yes, the new larger layout offers some great options! ;D

Tamara from Aarschot, Belgium

@Tamara: thanks, Tamara ... thank you for your kind words!

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

Nice pair Judy. The one on the right might
lend itself to black and white

15 Feb 2012 10:31am

@grouser: I tried it, at your suggestion, but I don't think there is enough contrast. ;(

Mhelene from Paris, France

15 Feb 2012 11:00am

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

How beautiful they are! I ve never seen a real racoon!

15 Feb 2012 12:59pm

@tyan: They are adorable when young, but can be destructive when older. ;(

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

What a cute capture Judy! I am sure mama was not very far away! ;-)

15 Feb 2012 2:16pm

@Eric Cousineau: That's just what we expected, but we never saw her.

Joyce from Montana, United States

That's truly sweet and very nice presentation of images this way. Love the close up! woops! almost didn't see that second racoon on the fruit.

15 Feb 2012 2:33pm

@Joyce: The just could not resist the tasty fruit! ;D

Elora from Genoa, Italy

15 Feb 2012 3:34pm

@Elora: I love the little ones, especially! ;D

Slackwater Don from Spokane, United States

RBL from Oxford, United States

Fantastic captures, these could be images from a habitat book on animals or a children's story about racoons (especially the photo on the right)...beautiful presentation.

15 Feb 2012 9:32pm

@RBL: Thanks, Ruthie ... I really appreciate your comment.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

So cute and a great compilation here, Judy - Thanks ;-)

15 Feb 2012 9:57pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks, Denny!

Rick from Toronto, Canada

Awwww.... both shots are so cute! I love the palm, too, which makes it all the more exotic and eye pleasing. As opposed, let's say, to these big aggressive city raccoons that I see as they rummage through garbage.

15 Feb 2012 10:11pm

@Rick: Yes, these little ones were so cute, and not far from the woods where I expect they lived. City 'coons' are living a tough life and can be aggressive. ;(

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

You captured the raccoon at the right time as he's staring right through your lens. The palms add a nice color contrast as well. Beautifully presented in this collage format!

15 Feb 2012 10:24pm

@Steven: Thanks, Steven ... yes, he was keeping his eye on me as I walked toward him with the camera in front of my face! ;D

curieuzeneuzemosterdpot from somewhere between viewer and subject, Belgium

@Baldwin VW: Thank you, Baldwin; I appreciate your words.

Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgium

this is a really creative use of the extra space - great collage Judy.
I made the mistake once of getting out of my car to take some photos of a cute little raccoon eating some garbage... as I gently called to him to get his attention for the camera - he peeked his head up and started running at me full speed - I screamed and ran back into the car hehehe - don't wanna mess with a crazy hungry coon me thinks

17 Feb 2012 1:24pm

@Jason Kravitz: Thanks, Jason. I was wary of going outside the pool's screen enclosure when I saw these young ones, but not seeing their mama, I ventured out, but not far! This montage was done and in my queue before you offered the extra space, but it showed off better, being larger. ... As for foolin' around with adult coons, it just isn't a good idea! ;D

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

Love the collage! Wonderful shots!
