Exploring Spoil Island...

Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 1 February 2012 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

...offshore from Clearwater Marine Aquarium on Jan. 14th. It was beautiful, but windy and very cold. Come back tomorrow to see what Quinlin rescued from in among the grasses.

Thanks, Chris; I should have commented on this Florida sand, though it isn't this white everywhere. This the best (short) answer I found about sand color: "The colors of beaches are directly related to the sources of the sand. The darker sands contain more dark minerals, the very light, white sands are typically macerated calcareous material from reefs or shells."

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

At first glance, I thought that this was a snowscape. If it's sand it really is white!

@CElliottUK: I've added more text on the white sand ... thanks for getting my attention!

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

The beautiful white sand reminds me of the beaches in Rio de Janeiro! However they are never this empty! Nicely captured Judy! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Have never been to Rio, so will have to take your word for it. ;D

Joyce from Montana, United States

Very interesting and clever montage! At first I thought I was looking at snow. I am alarmed at the idea of cold and windy in Florida. Thought we hog all that up here.

1 Feb 2012 4:07pm

@Joyce: We do get our Canadian cold fronts that slide south, but not very often. *grin

Slackwater Don from Spokane, United States

A fine cityscape as well as good action series. I really like the white sand.

franz from Baden, Austria

if i didn't know this was florida, i would have said this was snow on the ground ... the clothes of the people in the image would fit in perfectly ...

1 Feb 2012 7:37pm

@franz: We were all bundled up ... and were still chilled by the wind. ;D

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

Wonderful montage! At first I though it was snow until I looked at it more and read your description. The people were dressed for winter. ;-)

1 Feb 2012 9:43pm

@Don Levesque: Yes, we were all bundled up for an unusually COLD day, but the sunlight was delightful, as usual. ;D

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom
