Göran from Skanörut, Sweden

This is a very interesting series of pictures. I admire people who care so much about history that they reenact decisive moments like the American Civil War. Where I live we have a lot of nowadays Vikings every summer. They try to live like our ancestors did a 1000 years ago. But of course, they use plastic bags to carry things and mobile phones to communicate.

@Göran: Thank you very much for your comment. I understand the use of a few modern items; I saw a couple of plastic containers tucked under a cot in one of the tents. ;D

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

@B. Thomas: There are more horses coming! ;D

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

The side lighting is great for the horses, but it isn't doing the soldiers many favours.
Great event to be shooting though.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Another beautiful frame! It is with great admiration that I watch what these people are doing, great work these re-enactments! How much do they get lost into history? That would be interesting to know. I wonder if this job affects their real life (if they have one?)....

12 Feb 2011 5:57am

@Japanalia: Thank you. I'm happy you are enjoying this series, Gabriela. I imagine their hobby is intoxicating for them, but yes, they work or are retired. This is a weekend hobby for most of them. We know one local family that is involved and they relish outdoor activities with their children, attempting to simplify their lives.
