Registry Room's 2nd floor...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 4 October 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

We had a meaningful visit to Ellis Island with our four grandchildren back in July. They were most attentive to the hardships of the day; I wonder if they will remember them.

PS: Notice the repeating image of the chandelier from yesterday. Tomorrow, a closeup tomorrow.

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

Oh the stories this building could tell! The great melting pot that is America was stoked from this location! Well seen and captured Judy! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: People can go there and find information on their relatives if they have some basic information. It's a wonderful place to visit.

Another peek into heritage and history. I had no idea there was a second level.

4 Oct 2010 11:43am

@Viewfinder: Actually, there's a third level. We didn't climb the stairs, but Bridget took the younger ones up to see the dormitory that is set up to view.

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United Kingdom

Just Googled Ellis island records, seems like a lot of hope, and heartbreak traversed these halls, your shots have brought a perspective to the name.

@Jeff: Yes, you are right ... some heartbreak, but mostly hope for so many immigrants.

I need to get there! Nice image, Judy.

@Formerly Known as MontereyJohn: Yes, John ... you do, and don't be like me and get overwhelmed, forgetting to take shots. When you first go inside, you see a display of luggage like that brought in by the immigrants. I kick myself for not having a shot of it. ;(

Susan from Pompano Beach, by Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States
