Spring Hill, FL > Alaska and back...

Posted by
Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 18 July 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

In the five months we were away, we traveled 18,510 SAFE miles and believe it or not, we NEVER saw one accident - not even one 'fender bender'.
(The state of Alaska is so huge it is not on this condensed map; you only see the southern tip.)
Thank you all for indulging me as I've gone through our memory shots. This is the end of the Alaska trip photos; next week we'll 'head back into Canada and the lower forty-eight'. :D

PS: We reunited with our son in Colorado (after seven years), then 'detoured' to New Jersey to see our daughter and family. NJ > FL added another 1,100 miles, but after all that distance, what's another few miles? <grin>

January 1st is around the corner, along with an end to my daily posts, at least for now.
Dementia is so debilitating and Hubby needs more of my time.

Eleftheria from Athens, Greece

wow...Is that the trip you made?

18 Jul 2009 7:54am

@Eleftheria: Yes, Eleftheria ... we drove a very long distance in the course of five months' time.

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Barbara from Florida, United States

Wow! I'm impressed at your amazing trip and how you have documented it with all of those stunning images. Now to see the mapping of your journey, like a marathon that turned into a triathalon with those extra "few" miles. To imagine all of those miles without incident.
Great documentary, Judy.

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb. The mapping was originally done so Mike and I could truly visualize the distance we'd traveled. After posting as many images as I did, here on AM3, I decided to add the map as a 'finale' of sorts.

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

@tyan: Thank you ... it was a wonderful time together ... and we're so happy we did it when we did! xx

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

That is really a "cross country" trip. Not too many people get to do that. What a wonderful adventure.

18 Jul 2009 1:22pm

@Marion: You're so right, Marion, 'cross country' in more ways than one.

Mooraha from Kharkiv, Ukraine

Bookfool from Mississippi, United States

Wow. I don't think my husband and I could stand each other's company for that long!! What an exciting adventure, though!

18 Jul 2009 9:35pm

@Bookfool: When the dream is big enough, we do what we have to to do what we wish for. <grin>
Was it tight? Yes! But living in a 21' camper van for five months was truly a blessing.

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

This is incredible Judy! What an amazing drive and trip! This would be awesome! When are you going again?

19 Jul 2009 12:29am

@Scott Schilling: No repeats on that trip ... it would never be the same, and we're ten years older to boot! :D

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

This is absolutely unbelievable! Such a long drive!!!!!! You were just my age at that time, and I wouldn't budge from home now!

19 Jul 2009 3:32am

@Japanalia: Now, now ... you just returned from you holiday, so you do "leave home" occasionally. *smile*
I'd like to be 61 again, however, with some sadness over the last ten years, I'm glad they're behind me.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Very impressive! ;) What a journey...
