Silly Argiope aurantia...Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 6 October 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. When a neighbor called to say, "Come, see my garden spider," ... yup, I went! In North America, Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the "black and yellow garden spider", "Corn Spider" or "writing spider," because of the similarity of the web stabilimenta to writing. In England, Argiope bruennichi, where it is found only on the southern coast, and in other parts of Europe, including Germany, is also known as the wasp spider. The East Asian species Argiope amoena is known in Japan as kogane-gumo. In Australia, Argiope keyserlingi and A. aetherea are known as St. Andrew's Cross spiders, for their habit of resting in the web with legs outstretched in the shape of an X, the cross of St. Andrew. The large white zigzag in the centre of its web is called the stabilimentum or web decoration. In the Philippines, it is known as "gagambang ekis", which translates to "X spider". Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits. ---~--- Philippians 4:13 'We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.' ... <*}}}><

I HOPE THAT OTHERS CAN READ THIS. JUDY CALLED THIS ME THIS AFTERNOON TO SAY THAT HER COMPUTER IS FRIED. THERE WAS ACTUALLY SMOKE COMING OUT OF IT, SO SHE IS LIABLE TO BE OFF LINE FOR A WHILE. 6 Oct 2009 5:50am @Marion: Thank you, Marion ... it was a really scary situation, but thankfully my personal firefighter got the PC outside before the acrid smoke penetrated too much of the house. Our computer tech took the situation very seriously and in less than 24 hours, I had it back. More to be done after we return from our trip. Hugs, Judy tyan from Singapore, SingaporeI got to show this to Caleb and Ian,we were reading Eric Carle's The Very Busy Spider and they are into it nowadays, this is a very beautiful close up!:) 6 Oct 2009 6:01am Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandMaybe silly but I wouldn't mess with him!!! My best for a speedy fix on the computer, Judy. 6 Oct 2009 9:24am @Barbara: Hi Barb ... writing briefly from work. My computer issue is partially fixed and Mike is going for it as I type. It was my secondary HD that burned; the 'C' drive is fine. They have never seen one short out as this one did - don't know if it was a faulty drive or the power supply to it, but it fried! I will have a new secondary HD installed after we get back from our trip, but if all goes well, I'll be back online later this afternoon.
