Oh dear, deer everywhere...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 21 September 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

I don't know what they are foraging for, but this grouping was not usual in this area of Medina Lake, Texas.

PS: Thank you all for your comments on my 'yellow dollhouse' from yesterday. I'd move in, in a minute if I could! ♥

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Beautiful shot! Though I have to ask, why don't the deer walk under the fence, where the grass does appear to be greener!?

@warnesworld: Good question ... I asked them but they were too busy foraging. They could easily have fit under the fence. :D

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

This is a nice grouping this side of the fence and almost under the big trees! They are so attractive in body and limbs, soft and fluid in movement....you have to stop and look! (Good that deer in America don't bite!)

21 Sep 2009 6:15am

@Japanalia: These deer reminded us of the little Key Dear in the Florida Keys (southernmost islands); they're small and so soft in color.
Truly, I prefer the coloring of ones like Chris' shot today.
(I can't promise deer in America don't bite, but I've never heard of it.)

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

I think you have found Santa's reindeer. For sure I think I see Cupid and Blitzen in that group. Nice picture..

@Marion: Now I know you've never seen a REAL reindeer! <grin>
These were pretty! :D

I like seeing them there rather than crossing the road or on the road! Such beautiful, delicate animals!

21 Sep 2009 2:35pm

@Betty: They truly were beautiful and non-threatening ... because they were not threatened!

wow, this is overwhelming,so many of these gentle creatures all at once in an image,i love it! I wonder why the figures of children on the fence?:)

21 Sep 2009 3:47pm

@tyan: These deer were on a farm, and I guess the figures were a statement by the owners.

Bill Laing from Corvallis, OR, United States

Amusing juxtaposition with the cut-outs on the fence. Cool.

Barbara from Florida, United States

So close to a large group. This may be the area where they are fed, it does seem odd with all of the green grass close by. I like the cut outs too, especially the child sitting up on the fence.

22 Sep 2009 2:51am

@Barbara: The deer obviously felt safe and occasionally were fed by the Ranger and visitors. We could have spent hours there with them, but life goes on and we needed to get our rig set up and a meal prepared.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Absolutely wonderful capture! Would love to experience that!
