Right out of your hand...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 19 September 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

They were so very tame at Medina Lake, Texas.
This lake is west of northern San Antonio.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Wow they are everywhere. The more I looked I'd see another one. They appear small like Florida deer. So trusting. What nibbles are they eating out of Mike's hand?

19 Sep 2009 5:50am

@Barbara: There are so many of them and they aren't very timid. I don't remember what the ranger called the pellets, but he gave Mike a handful and they didn't last long. Come back Monday to see more of them! :D

Our friends in Fair Oaks Ranch, just east of this spot, have them wander through their subdivision all the time. You might look out a window and see them looking for some plant to nibble on. A beautiful 'nuisance' to behold.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Awww wonderful!!! My girls would love to experience that!!!

19 Sep 2009 5:52am

@Magda: I'm sure they would; they were very sweet animals.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

These are well-behaved and nice.....We have them at Nara, former capital of Japan more than 1,000 years ago. There are plenty of temples there and the deer live on the grounds. Well, tourists have spoiled them considerably and if you don't give, they probe, they push, they even bite....My experience with the deer I wanted to see so much was not a pleasant one! And.....you can never reach the little ones which are well guarded by their seniors, so well that they never can receive any of the food!

19 Sep 2009 7:25am

@Japanalia: These were roaming and when we drove up, they came out of the field. The ranger at the gate told us they would and he gave Mike a handful of 'nibbles' for them. It's a very quiet area, and there are hundreds of dear around. The funniest sight was to see them on the miniature golf course, sleeping here and there. These weren't pushy, just inquisitive and sweet.

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

oh so lovely,i love to see free ranging animals,i think we can only fully enjoy that in heaven as God promised.:)

19 Sep 2009 7:52am

@tyan: We have free ranging animals in states where there are many open acres, like Antelope, cows, and the deer. In Texas it was surprising to see them in neighborhoods.

Evi from Athens, Greece

HEHEHEHE..."Great minds think alike", they say! Check out Eleftheria's photo today!

@Evi: Thanks, Evi ... and I was truly impressed with Eleftheria's post today. She certainly has an eye for photography!

Chris from South Jersey, United States

wow - pretty amazing - I have never seen them quite so tame before......

19 Sep 2009 11:51am

@Chris: We hadn't either, Chris - it was delightful, and therefore my reason for using some archived shots.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

Nicely captured Judy! We see lots of deer here in the wild and they are always beautiful to behold.... ;-)

Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United States

Very gentle little does there. How lovely they are. I love animals so much. Wish I was there too.

19 Sep 2009 8:20pm

@Lambspun: They really are such sweet animals, and it was so nice to see them calm and relaxed. I don't know how they'd be with a crowd of people around, but here there were only the three of us.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

They are really tiny little guys and cute to boot. We sure have invaded their space. No wonder they are so tame.

20 Sep 2009 12:29am

@Marion: They really are ..... and so gentle.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

This has a lot of appeal. When we moved north and discovered wild deer were everywhere, it was an amazing thing to this one New Orleans city boy.

20 Sep 2009 12:59am

@Viewfinder: I'm glad you could identify with this shot. ♥

Seraphine from San Francisco, United States
