Proud Parents

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 29 August 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

... and I can tell you she has extremely proud grandparents as well.
Earlier this month in Hershey, PA, Bridget was garbed with her 'white coat', after taking part in the ceremony when the new medical students endorsed the Hippocratic oath required for every prospective doctor.
Several days later, they met their cadavers, which was the beginning of a grueling anatomy course. For a fascinating article about this, go here to read Getting to know the body. It's difficult to believe that our beautiful 'little' granddaughter is doing these things.
Since we couldn't be there, I'm thankful for this photo taken by Bridget's cousin, Jen.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Wow! Amazing the things she has to go through before becoming a doctor! What an amazing girl she is!! Wishing her all the best! Everyone should be proud of her! Fantastic photo!

@Magda: We are so happy for her, to be able to pursue her dream ... but it certainly is a lot of pressure!

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

A gruelling thing to be a medical student, but she'll go through with it, I believe it! They are all three beautiful people!

29 Aug 2009 6:28am

@Japanalia: Yesterday she had a seven-hour anatomy exam ...... I hope she's resting today! :D

Barbara from Florida, United States

All of their eyes are gleaming. Like the day of Bridget's graduation, but this is at a new level. Incredible and supportive parents to be at her side all the way. What a wonderful daughter, granddaughter and outstanding individual to reach remarkable goals in life.
The story behind the link you provided was very interesting and emotional at the same time. My dear friend Katie is one of those "wonderful people" described in the article, "people who gave you a very precious gift".
Katie who always gave to others, believed in giving all of herself in the end, so that someone like Bridget could learn and give even more back to the human race.
Bridget will shine along her journey in life, you can see it.

@Barbara: At times like this, we wish we lived closer to Susan and her family, but we can't cut ourselves into thirds and be in FL, CO and NJ. For now, we'll enjoy FL's weather.
Thank you, Barb, for your warm and caring comment. I do remember now, that you told be about Katie's gift ... and truly it's a gift I better understand now. I'll be sure to have Susan read these comments. ♥

Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United States

You should be a proud grammy! I read that link! I was wanted to be a doctor but in my years they pushed you towards things they thought you were good in....like Journalism because you did well in English!...Huh? But I always never had the confidence for Med School ....so I always love to see students who have the guts to push themselves into those careers. I would love to be in her shoes! You must be very proud! Wonderful photo!

29 Aug 2009 3:54pm

@Lambspun: I am a VERY proud Nana. :D
Interesting that you wanted to be a doctor and were steered away from that dream; I identify with that. I was told my strengths were all male traits and I'll tell you that did a horrible number on me for some years to come. ... Bridget's so sweet, it's a struggle for her to find those necessary "guts" and as a result we are behind her 100%. Yesterday she had a seven-hour anatomy exam ... NOT easy, but she passed!

susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

Your pride in your family is wonderful to see!!

29 Aug 2009 4:38pm

@susan: Thanks, Susan. Pride isn't always a good trait, but in this case I think God will approve!

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

I must have seen this one on Facebook because I know I made a comment on it about you bursting your buttons. Bridget looks so capable and eager to take on her new job. I tell you I would go to her. Beautiful inside and out and such lovely proud parents.

29 Aug 2009 11:44pm

@Marion: Thank you so much, Marion. This image is one I wish I'd been able to capture myself. The distance between Florida and Pennsylvania is too great! I'd go to to her also ... and who knows, maybe the future I will! xx

Sidney from Manila, Philippines

Great smiles!

Bookfool from Mississippi, United States

Very exciting!!! My future daughter-in-law is an MD just beginning her residency at Vanderbilt. I can't imagine doing what they do. Yeeeuck. It's a good thing there are people with strong stomachs who actually desire to be physicians!!!

31 Aug 2009 8:20pm

@Bookfool: Wow, you can say that again! It's so much hard work, and VERY expensive, but God bless them, each and every one. xx
