Excitement...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 13 July 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Our driver stopped the bus when she saw what looked like a 'moving haystack' in the underbrush. The passengers remained silent per her instruction and because we were sitting in the front seat, we got a 'bird's eye view'. In fact, the top left photo was taken by the driver when w/o saying a word, she reached over and took my camera from my hands, when the mama came back across the road to get her cubs to follow her.
Bus drivers in Denali Nat'l Park signal as they pass one another if bears (or other animals) have been spotted and the bears seem accustomed to the 'big green busses' as long as they're stopped and there are NO human sounds.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Excellent images. While reading your caption I felt myself whispering not to make any noise. (quirky I know) A great opportunity to see these grizzlies from a safe place. I can see how they could be camouflaged in the bush.
I really like these group of images, including the one of you and Mike.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Wow, how exciting! At first I thought you were tickling a bear... but then I knew better! It reminds me of such an event when I was about 30 and was passing through a forest in Romania where there lived a number of bears. I was in my car and we had to stop and let the family cross the road!
I like the arrangement of the photos! You've become VERY GOOD at these collages!

@Japanalia: Thank you, Gabriela ... seeing those bears was really so wonderful, which you can understand having seen them yourself. Thanks too, for your compliment.
