At the entrance...Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 5 July 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. ...to the most fabulous National Park. It's a poor photo, but a wonderful memory. Charles Sheldon conceived the plan to conserve the region as a national park. Largely due to Sheldon's efforts, Mount McKinley National Park was established in 1917. Its population of Dall sheep and other wildlife were now legislatively protected. The park and massif including North America's highest peak were named for a former senator - later President - William McKinley. At 6 million acres or 7,370 square miles, the park is larger than Massachusetts. It exemplifies interior Alaska's character as one of the world's last great frontiers for wilderness adventure. It remains largely wild and unspoiled, as the Athabascans knew it. In December 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed the bill establishing Denali National Park. Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits. ---~--- Philippians 4:13 'We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.' ... <*}}}><

Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYes Barbara has a great ideal, you two should co-author a book on the many beautiful places to visit ;) you know how much I love Sunday photos x 5 Jul 2009 1:19pm @Lorraine: Thank you, Lorraine, but I'd rather play with photos or my camera than to do a book. <grin> Betty from New Jersey, United StatesYou have so many wonderful travel memories, Judy. I feel as if I'm traveling with you in your photos! 5 Jul 2009 2:19pm @Betty: We're only slight more than two months away from our anniversary and then I'll have to get back to 'work' with my camera rather than digging into the archives. *smile* Leena from Joensuu, FinlandThose National Parks are coming more and more important day after day in our earth. Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesWe'll get to see Yosemite, but Denali will remain one of my bucket list items for a while longer. And being a sheep lover it was very interesting. What a beautiful place! 6 Jul 2009 1:03am @Lambspun: The products made from Qiviut are so extremely light weight and unbelievably warm. Go here to see some of the products (and their prices). Tammy-Cricket from somewhere out there, United StatesAh....i love old memories. Just be happy you have the pictures. 6 Jul 2009 2:29pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesWhat a wonderful memory. What an amazing park. So glad that your tumor was benign...whew! That must be such a relief...I can only imagine the weight lifted from your shoulders. 6 Jul 2009 5:43pm @Laurie: Thanks, Laurie. Thanks also re: the tumor. You're right, the weight is heavier than you'd know. My mom died of cancer in 1978, at 63, with no primary site identified. For 30+ years I've been watchful ... this could have been my time ... and thankfully it wasn't. |
