Aboard the MV PtarmiganPosted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 29 June 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. ... during our Portage Glacier Cruise Tour, when we cruised right up to the face of a glacier, just 50 miles south of Anchorage. We motored to within 300 feet of the mammoth wall of ice called Portage Glacier. The unmistakable rumbling of a calving glacier, and waiting for the moment when a huge block of ice crashed into the sea, was an exhilarating experience. Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits. ---~--- Philippians 4:13 'We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.' ... <*}}}><

Leena from Joensuu, FinlandWhat time of a year were you there? My town is located on a latitude, what is somewhere between Anchorage and Fairbanks :) We are inhabitants of North, what could be like another world to you in winter time and also during our summer too because of the light ! 29 Jun 2009 3:46pm @Leena: Hi Leena, we were in Alaska for the month of June and half of July, and we had both hot and cold weather while there. It was "another world" in the sense of the vastness and also the phenomenal BEAUTY! The extremely long days and very short nights were a joy for us to experience. That's why I enjoy your summer photos so much! xx Chris from South Jersey, United StatesI cannot pronounce the name of the ship, but it looks like a fantastic experience...(you do have a lot of shots on board ships!!).... 29 Jun 2009 5:46pm @Chris: It's easy, Chris; just drop the 'p' and you've got it. The Ptarmigan is a member of the grouse family and is seasonally camouflaged; its feathers moult from white in winter to brown in spring or summer.
