North of Deception Pass

Posted by Judy aka L@dybug (Brooksville, FL, United States) on 21 June 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Another Sunday post: We were on our way north to get the ferry to Victoria, on Vancouver Island, when we stopped at this fascinating tree for a photo, and then on board the ferry as we sailed up the Inside Passage.

From Wikipedia: The Inside Passage of the Alaska Panhandle and coastal British Columbia is a coastal route for oceangoing vessels along a series of passages between the mainland and the coastal islands. Ships using the route can avoid some of the bad weather in the open ocean, and visit the many isolated communities along the route. It is heavily travelled by cruise ships, freighters, tugs with tows, fishing craft and ships of the Alaska Marine Highway and BC Ferries systems.

The Alaskan portion of the Inside Passage, in the north, extends 500 miles (800 km) from north to south and 100 miles (160 km) from east to west. The area encompasses 1,000 islands, 15,000 miles (24,000 km) of shoreline and thousands of coves and bays.

Unforgettable journeys and memories. Both are wonderful images of you two. I like your presentation with the two images and text.
Just remember the cool breezes and fresh air of your travels, it may help to get through this heat we are having.

21 Jun 2009 10:40am

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb, and you're right about the "cool breezes"; we just returned from our walk at 7 am, in 81° w/88% humidity, but we beat the sunrise, so that was good.
PS: We had 90° temps in Alaska in July '99, so even there can be hot in the summer! :D

Great memories and wonderful pictures. Looks like very familiar territory to me. Wish Mike a Happy Father's Day from us. We visited Deception Pass a year ago last November. Beautiful spot. Now I am reading a book called "Deception Point" by Dan Brown. Will have to google it to find out where it is. Somewhere up in the Artic. Brrrr. ♥
