Crater Lake

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 4 April 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Here's an extra that didn't fit in one of the Sundays. ... We had driven from Florida west to California (on our way to Alaska), then after going up the coastline, we traveled to Crater Lake. The day was overcast so the water wasn't its normal cobalt blue, but it was beautiful. This was early in May and offered more snow cover than we had ever seen in our lives. The drifts went to the third story roof line of the lodge on the lake side!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

another fun memory!!! Our family did Crater Lake in July 2000, and there was still plenty of snow up there - an amazing place to visit.....

@Scott Schilling: Thanks, Scott ....... but no receipt of your e-mail. :(

Barbara from Florida, United States

Stunning view and magnificent memories for this adventure. That is an incredible amount of snow for drifts to reach 3 stories. Here in Florida things often stop because of rain. You two look great standing there together. I really like that sweater Mike has on.

4 Apr 2009 1:20pm

@Barbara: Driving up to the Crater Lake Lodge, the snow either side of the road was WAY above the car!

I think Mike still has that sweater, Barb; it doesn't get much use here in FL, where yes, things can stop in rain! :D

Eleftheria from Athens, Greece

Great composition, beautiful snow, lovely and happy people! :-)

4 Apr 2009 2:09pm

@Eleftheria: Thank you, Eleftheria ... it's a beautiful spot and easy to be happy there! :D

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Outstanding. Ellie and I were just talking yesterday about getting reservations for a couple of nights at the Crater Lake Lodge. I have bicycled there a number of time.

4 Apr 2009 2:50pm

@john4jack: As you can tell, Jack, having been there, we didn't have a clear sky and the lake was not its gorgeous color, but it is an astounding place anyway. Please take Ellie and go take more photos to share with us!

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

What an amazing terrain! What a view! And the two of you add so much to this photo! :) I can imagine how many stories your grandchildren get to hear - I could listen to those for hours.....

4 Apr 2009 3:28pm

@Magda: We could spend hours going over the old photos; grandchildren's attention span doesn't last that long! :D

tyan from Singapore

this is sooo lovely,i think you are really an adventurous couple, and worth it or i wouldnt have the chance to see such a beautiful terrain! The scenery is simply breathtaking!:)

That must have been a great drive to Alaska.... and this must be a fond memory for you.

5 Apr 2009 1:02am

@observing: It was a marvelous drive to Alaska ... you'll see some photos; it was a five-month trip, and this was just the beginning.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

Wow, did you really drive from Florida to Alaska? What an adventure. And to stop over at Crater Lake - icing on the cake! What a happy couple you are here.

5 Apr 2009 1:59am

@Viewfinder: Thanks, Glenn, and yes, we spent five months on the road in 1999 ... 18,510 miles round trip and never saw one accident (or the remains of such). It was wonderful!

Cricket from Alabama, United States

Look at those smiles. I cannot believe you spent 5 months on the road. What a journey that must have been.

7 Apr 2009 6:03pm

@Cricket: Thank you, Cricket. Yes, the 5-month trip was wonderful ... something we will NEVER forget!
