Katie, Kayla and the OpossumPosted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 2 April 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. The photo op for the children was wonderful, and though Kayla was hesitant to pet the Opossum, she did. Katie is a pre-med student in college and just loves her part-time job at the park. Thank you to everyone who commented yesterday; two doctors' visits had me unable to spend time here. Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits. ---~--- Philippians 4:13 'We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.' ... <*}}}><

Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaFabulous, natural beauty in all the ways that count...I love this...don't worry about visiting, are you ok, sweety? 2 Apr 2009 11:09am @Lorraine: Thanks, Lorraine ... and thanks for your note! Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesI am surprised to see a tame 'possum. This is a really sweet combo-shot. 2 Apr 2009 12:05pm @Viewfinder: This is another of Homosassa's educational creatures. I have other photos and Katie was so good with her. Many of their animals and birds either were injured or sick and have been rehabilitated. The rare birds all have only one wing, so can't fly anyway. Barbara from Florida, United StatesSeeing a possom up close like this is unusual. It is a fantastic opportunity for children to have the hands on learning experience. This makes a great keepsake image for Kayla of her visit. 2 Apr 2009 12:51pm @Barbara: Yes, we were pleased to have a small group and Katie was wonderful with each of the children. EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United KingdomOh wow, that is just so cute. Not an animal I have ever encountered in the flesh, which is a shame. Lovely images, Judy 2 Apr 2009 1:17pm @EYES WIDE SHUT: Thanks, Paul, and this was the first time I'd seen one that wasn't 'roadkill'. john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesThis is just great. I love seeing your family. 2 Apr 2009 2:05pm @john4jack: I'm happy you're enjoying the family; there will be more coming. :D Chris from South Jersey, United Stateslooks like a fun time - glad Kayla worked up the courage to pet the possum..... 2 Apr 2009 2:07pm @Chris: It took a little 'doing' on her part, but she was happy she did it. :D Bookfool from Mississippi, United StatesOooh, possums have scary teeth. I'd be hesitant to pet, too, but it looks like that's a tame critter. Is Kayla your grandchild? 2 Apr 2009 2:28pm @Bookfool: Yes, Nancy, Kayla is our granddaughter from Denver - the one who lost her Daddy last year. Carol from United StatesI agree with Bookfool about their teeth. We had one in our yard yesterday morning but I was afraid to get too close to take a picture. We had one in our garage one time and had an awful time getting it out. Awesome collage. 2 Apr 2009 2:34pm @Carol: Thanks so much, Carol, but I don't think I want a wild one in my garage! :D Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoA superb moment well photographied !! 2 Apr 2009 3:01pm Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United KingdomAnother nice one for the album Judy, well done. 2 Apr 2009 3:50pm chrissy from uk, United KingdomWow so cute, lovely picture to keep in the family album Judy 2 Apr 2009 7:16pm Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaI'm loving this series Judy and yesterday's gator shot is awesome!! 2 Apr 2009 7:33pm @Mandy Provan: Thanks, Mandy. Magda from Vancouver, CanadaAhhhh we have a lot of opossums visit our backyard...... I am brave enough to look at them through my patio door but never to come close! But, for any child this is one awesome experience! How lucky! 2 Apr 2009 8:33pm @Magda: You're very wise; I'd never approach one in the wild either! Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesI would pat him, that is for sure... though their teeth - ummmm... let me think again... 2 Apr 2009 11:26pm @Fliss: I would have also, but was too busy behind the lens. :D JJ from Jersey City, United StatesA great pair of shots, Dont think I have ever seen a tame possum before I am working on the four seasons of the bridge :) 3 Apr 2009 1:18am @JJ: I hadn't seen a tame one before, either. |
