Dinner on Maui

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 29 March 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Nearing the end of our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii, this is a reminder of the happy spirit of the islands and the wonderful time we had. Is it possible this was twenty five years ago???

PS: Yet another garment from my sewing machine...

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United Kingdom

The older we grow, the more we come to realise that life is so short and every second precious, Judy. As a lad, I thought life went on forever and that being South of Thirty years of age was impossibly far away. Nowadays, the months fly passed, the years add additional digits to my age and my face grows more lines each visit to the mirroir! ha ha

But that all enforces my desire to live every day as though it is my last, to savour the seconds, love the minutes and fill the hours with love, joy and laughter. Oh, and my wife loves my grey hair, so it's not all bad!

A lovely photographic memory

29 Mar 2009 5:50am

@EYES WIDE SHUT: You are so right, Paul. Just wait until you hit 71 or more, and realize THEN just how fast time flies.
Believe me, it speeds up a bit each and every year!

Leena from Joensuu, Finland

Eyes. . . . said it all!
Lauri came and said, that you have commented on his blog. I wanted to show to him Kayla, who is in same sad situation now as Lauri.
Lauri thanks you for your kind comments!
It makes so good to see your happy photos, thank you!

29 Mar 2009 6:32am

@Leena: Thank you, Leena, for sharing what you have. I feel so for both Lauri and Kayla. Their lives go on, but with a part of them 'missing'. Hopefully life will be more gentle with them in the future.
Thanks also, for your comments on my Sunday series. xx

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand

Oh what beautiful memories you have:-) Great work on the sewing machine!!!

29 Mar 2009 6:44am

@Linerberry: Thank you, Liners ... it does my heart good to look back as well as forward!

Hidalgo from Herunen, Finland

Moment full of memories. Very nice shot really!

29 Mar 2009 7:01am

@Hidalgo: Thank you so much ... but I didn't take the photo. *smile*

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

How absolutely stunning you two look, so what else is new, to me you darlings represent a Forever Summer Feeling, love this!

29 Mar 2009 10:49am

@Lorraine: Wow, a "Forever Summer Feeling" I like that ... if only life was like that all of the time, right?
Naw, that wouldn't work; we have to have the rain to have a rainbow!

Chris from South Jersey, United States

you guys look like you are having so much fun....time does indeed fly by, doesn't it (in 1984 I graduated High School, and it doesn't feel like 25 years ago.....).

29 Mar 2009 11:34am

@Chris: Yeah, I know, you're the age of our youngest..........that makes me feel ancient! :D

Eleftheria from Athens, Greece

A nice and happy couple! :-)

29 Mar 2009 12:16pm

@Eleftheria: Thank you, Sweetie!

Betty from New Jersey, United States

You can see the happiness in your faces. So wonderful and beautiful. Eyes said it all. And Chris, I graduated in 1964 and it doesn't seem like 45 years ago! Where does the time go? Judy, you make us all think! :-)

29 Mar 2009 12:25pm

@Betty: I wrote to Paul (I think), that wait till he hits my age if he thinks his years are flying by. :D
My HS graduation was in 1956 ... so that's coming up on 53 years ... IMPOSSIBLE!
I'm glad I put the years on these photos, because they've been a marker for so many.

JJ from Jersey City, United States

The eyes and the radiant smiles make this shot, so clearly deeply in love, I love seeing your Sunday posts, and thinking back to what I was doing in the year of the shot

29 Mar 2009 1:01pm

@JJ: I'm glad you're enjoying my Sunday series, JJ ... I am too.
As I assembled photos in a folder, I tried to keep them close to a chronological order, but see that in some I'm off.
I pre-post a week at a time, and I have fun thinking back on what was then and what is 'now' ... as in my current shots.

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Terrific! Our 25th was spent on Kauai.

29 Mar 2009 1:11pm

@john4jack: I hope you enjoyed it at much as we did.
We spent four nights on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and then in San Francisco.
I'd repeat it in a minute if we could!

marie from perth, Australia

Hi Judy, this is stunning in more ways than one, 25 years is no small amount, (mine is next year). You look so happy, the smiles radiate happiness, Eyes has said everything...... Well done on making so many of us realise how much we need to cherish our time.

29 Mar 2009 4:14pm

@marie: Thank you, Marie, and to realize that now we've just about DOUBLED those 25 years.
Our 50th comes in September and just does not seem possible.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

How wonderful to have such fond memories and photos to go with them!!!

29 Mar 2009 4:40pm

@Susan: Thanks, Susan; I wish I knew the names of all those who took the shots for us over the years!
Some I remember, but for this one I haven't a CLUE!

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Beautiful photo from the islands! twenty five years seems like a blink in the eye doesn't it! I agree with Paul that you realize that every day is precious and this life is but a blink!

29 Mar 2009 4:52pm

@Scott Schilling: Thank you, Scott ... and you're absolutely correct (as is Paul).
Our little (10#) dog is struggling with congestive heart failure at less than 10 years ... another kind of "blink"! We must make the best of EVERY day!

Markela from Athens, Greece

1984.....I was 14 years-old then....25 years have passed since then, and it seems like it was yesterday....I totally agree with Paul, once you reach the age of 30 the years just pass on by so fast....We have to savour each and every moment of our lives, and cherish them like treasure. You both look so happy in this photo, I wish you both the happiest years to come...:))

29 Mar 2009 8:35pm

@Markela: Thank you so much, Markela ... and if you think 25 years go quickly, wait until you look back at 50!
It's absolutely beyond belief!

observing from North West, United Kingdom

Your photos always show the happy smiling couple Judy, and they are wonderful to see. Let's hope for all of us (are you listening Paul) that we can continue to be happy in our twilight years - free from ailments.

29 Mar 2009 9:09pm

@observing: You've hit the nail on its head, Mike ... "free from ailments," are the key words!

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

We were 15 days on Poipu. We stayed at the same place on the water for 4 years in a row. The last time we were there, we stayed a month (2005), and haven't been back.

Jack

29 Mar 2009 9:36pm

@john4jack: We were on Poipu Beach when on Kauai and loved it. Wonderful memories!
Maybe it's time for you to return, and it's not hard from the west coast!

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Wonderful image to remember those moments in life! Your smiles are always so beautiful...

30 Mar 2009 12:26am

@Magda: Thank you so much, Magda!

Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United States

Oh how I loved Hawaii... so incredibly laid back..

30 Mar 2009 12:40am

@Fliss: Me too, Fliss; we were blessed by our trip.

Bookfool from Mississippi, United States

I think you guys must be the happiest couple on the planet. Great shot! You have the nicest smiles.

30 Mar 2009 12:56am

@Bookfool: Ohhhhhh, <blush> ... happiness is a state of mind, and heart ... it's less taxing and far healthier than unhappiness. :D

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Oh wow!!! This is just fantastic...I love this shot! What a happy couple you are and I look forward to the follow up :)

30 Mar 2009 4:40am

@bluechameleon: Thankfully, after an additional 25 years since this photo was taken, we can still say we are happy.

Lesley from Lincoln, United States

I agree with Bookfool. You look absolutely radiant. I would've thought you were on your honeymoon!
Paul is so correct, as always. Time passes so quickly as I creep down the backside of my forties. 1984 seems like another lifetime ago. I was a young mother with a new baby.

30 Mar 2009 11:31am

@Lesley: ... and in 1984 our 'baby' (the youngest of three) had left the nest.
Time waits for no one ... and yes, I know that's not very original. :D

Carol from United States

As I look at these "vintage" photos you are posting, I just can't help but praise God for the wonderful years you two have spent together. You are indeed a very special couple.

30 Mar 2009 7:01pm

@Carol: Thank you, Carol ... and we praise God also!!! Thank you for your friendship. xx
