... his back injury and the end of his shoveling days.

This was taken in Milford, Connecticut, and when Mike was hurt in 1986, it was clear to us that we would have to move. We had bought a lot in Florida on speculation, so we began our plans to build a house on it.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Magda from Canada

So, who was doing the shovelling after his back injury? Where was that? Do you get any snow where you live now? We don't get much snow here in BC but this year I got my good share of shovelling the driveway! It seemed that every time it snowed my hubby was working so I was the only one to do the shovelling duty! Figures! (grin)

@Magda: Your comment made me realize I needed to amend my text, Magda, which I've just done.
We were in Connecticut then, and no, we don't get snow here in Florida.
I know this year has been a snowy one for BC and it's been unusually cold one here also ... but not white! :D

Magda from Canada

Thank you Judy! I love hearing stories that go together with your beautiful images....

@Magda: Thanks, Magda ... that was a snowy story! :D

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand

How we plan our lives and our futures....through thick and thin we work together......thats what this image speaks to me Judy! Thank you for sharing:-)

@Linerberry: You're welcome ... and thank you!

EYES WIDE SHUT from United Kingdom

There is a look in the eye, an air of expression which shouts, 'So much snow, so little time!' ha ha
Whenever we get Ice or snow here, I always go out and clear it from my wife's car so that I know she is safe on the roads, and she loves that. See, us men have our uses!
A neat memory, Judy

8 Mar 2009 6:39am

@EYES WIDE SHUT: Paul, I can tell you're a good husband, as Mike has been. He let me fix the family breakfast while he went out and did the 'grunt work'. :D

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Well....there is some poetry in winter, but.....better be in Florida than shovel that amount of snow....at any age! I believe Mike is not exactly sorry that he can no longer shovel snow, is he?! (He does look very strong, though!)

8 Mar 2009 10:30am

@Japanalia: Yes, we had some large snowfalls in Connecticut, and while in Florida we struggle with heat and humidity, but not the laborious work of shoveling snow!

Betty from New Jersey, United States

I bet this shot makes you appreciate Florida even more! That's quite a lot of snow!

8 Mar 2009 11:01am

@Betty: You're right, Betty ... we do! :D

Chris from South Jersey, United States

He looks very determined to get all that snow - and probably glad that he doesn't have to deal with it in Florida!! Great shot and memories....

8 Mar 2009 11:55am

@Chris: Thanks, Chris, and yes, he's happy not to have the snow and cold to deal with. :D

Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, Morocco

This photo is a great memory of your winter days in Connecticut and a big change of life in Florida !!!

8 Mar 2009 12:01pm

@Marie-Hélène Ammor: Yes, Marie ... a wonderfully warm change in climate!

Barbara from Florida, United States

Now that is a lot of snow to deal with. It is all part of the memories of the past whether good or bad. To recall winter days in the north like this are a huge contrast to Florida living.
Being from the north as well I had a corner home and driveway that needed shoveling and when that snow is wet it weighs a ton.
What would we do without memories and photographs?
Very nice, Judy.

8 Mar 2009 2:28pm

@Barbara: Yes, it was a LOT of snow, and we were required to have the sidewalk clear within a few hours of the snowfall, so it was a back-breaking job and a constant challenge. It's pretty, but . . .
The old photos are a true treasure!

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Well look at that memory, he looks Canadian lol ;)

8 Mar 2009 3:03pm

@Lorraine: He's not the one with the Canadian blood, I am! <grin>

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

this reminds me of days gone by...that sure was a lot of snow, and i don't miss it at all!!!

8 Mar 2009 4:59pm

@Susan: We don't miss it either ... we can see all the photos we want on TV or the internet! :D

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

Great shot and aren't you glad that piles of snow like that are just a memory. Mike looks like "let's just get this job done". Umm, I have similar pictures from just a few weeks ago. Great photo Judy.

8 Mar 2009 5:12pm

@Marion: Yes, we are! Memories are a good thing! :D
Here, we're dealing with frost damage and trying to recover plants that don't like the frosts! :D

JJ from Jersey City, United States

A great shot, I am sure from the expression in his face that the job of clearing that huge pile of snow was not a welcome task,

8 Mar 2009 5:49pm

@JJ: You're right ... it was a necessary 'evil'. :D

Helma from Tehran, Iran

Cool shot ..

8 Mar 2009 7:47pm

Amir from Tehran, Iran

I was only 4 years old back then. Very cold shot. I am sure in FL you have nothing but sunshine, as Sunshine State suggest

8 Mar 2009 10:43pm

@Amir: Well............we sometimes have rain, but at this point we are so dry we are praying for rain.

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Judy, A wonderful shot - makes me feel like I am in the Sierra Nevada again! Your Florida Sunsets look a lot warmer!

9 Mar 2009 12:47am

@Scott Schilling: Our Florida sunsets are much more pleasant than the daily activities and driving required when in Connecticut with snow!

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

I had a few years of shoveling this stuff - no thanks. I guess it's a mix of good memories for you guys.

9 Mar 2009 12:49am

@Viewfinder: You're right, Glenn ... it's a mix, for sure! Snow is pretty to look at in a winter scene, but no fun to shovel or in which to drive!

Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United States

At least he was building muscle...
