Barbara from Florida, United StatesBoy, would I like to see what kind of images I could capture with that equipment. A bit of a spinoff from your words. 6 Feb 2009 5:23am @Barbara: I should have given him my card, but his equipment had me a bit intimidated. ;( COLD enough? It hit a low of 26 here at our house, but is now up to 37 (9:00). Brrrrrrrrrr...... @tyan: ... and for most of us! :D Scott Schilling from San Martin, United StatesJudy thanks - now I have lens envy! 6 Feb 2009 5:48am @Scott Schilling: You may be strong enough to manage the weight of it! :D Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandI think its known in the trade as "lens envy" lol!!! I'll probably be 90 before i get ot a lense like that!!! 6 Feb 2009 7:10am @Linerberry: I hear you! :D LeenaM from Joensuu, FinlandI am wondering, can he get clear photos without tripod, I have a little ( !!) smaller lens, but still I need tripod for a clear photo, but perhaps he is very steady man :) Good weekend to you! 6 Feb 2009 7:39am @LeenaM: He did have a tripod; you can see just a tiny bit of it beneath his end of the long lens, not fastened to the base of the camera. Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoMe too...this is a beautiful portrait of a photographer in action ... ! 6 Feb 2009 8:06am @Marie-Hélène Ammor: Merci beaucoup, et aussi grâce à ce logiciel de traduction en ligne! :D Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaGreat shot, Judy. I tell myself all that equipment would be too heavy to carry far on my long walks. 6 Feb 2009 8:34am @Michael Skorulski: ABSOLUTELY ...... I fully agree! @Betty: I know........! @njsux: The light shield on the end does make it look backwards, doesn't it. :D Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United KingdomCracking candid Judy he looks like he knows what he's doing...Like his gear but don't envy him having to carry it around. :>) 6 Feb 2009 12:15pm @Jeff: You, me and most everyone else agree! Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesNow THAT'S my kind of lens!!!!! This shot seems to make everyone green with envy, but again..... the weight of it would probably be too much for some of us..... 6 Feb 2009 1:28pm @Susan: Heaven help him if 'that' bundle falls off his tripod, right? Egads...............! It hit a low of 26 but is now 39 at 9:17 ... it's supposed to hit the mid 60's later. We're more than CHILLED! Veronelle from Lens, Francewouhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! j'en suis baba, un superbe objectif ! i have a 50mm macro ! i have a little photograph ! 6 Feb 2009 2:08pm @Veronelle: Avoir un 100mm macro et j'ai un peu de photo aussi! ........ :D Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanWe're fascinated...both of us! It might have cost "a bit"! But....no matter the quality of the shots......it would turn into a bother just carrying it around! there are plenty like him in Japan! 6 Feb 2009 2:53pm @Japanalia: It would be fun to try one for a day, but I wouldn't want to have to carry it around either. Chris from South Jersey, United StatesGreat shot - that is an impressive bit of gear he has - you probably has well developed arm muscles from carrying it around!! 6 Feb 2009 3:48pm @Chris: You'd need muscles to lift that lens! It was 26 at 7am here and 50 in Denver where our g-dtr is. Now it's up to 50 in four hours, so I'm thrilled! Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomDon't be impressed by the size of his equipment... :-0 It's the eye behind the lens that makes the picture, some people have all the stuff, but the results are mediocre at best. 6 Feb 2009 4:39pm @Observing: You are absolutely correct, Mike ... some wonderful shots come from little pocket cameras! zahai from Berlin, Germanydoes size really matter? ^^ his facial expression is interesting though. 6 Feb 2009 5:27pm @zahai: I liked his expression also. Bookfool from Mississippi, United StatesWe have a couple of professional dudes with lenses like that. They shove me aside during swim season, but I've seen their photos and darned if mine aren't just as good. Hahaha. Humility, thou art escaping me. Anyway, I know the feeling. I just read your comment about having brownouts during extreme weather. We have that problem, as well, but earlier this week we lost our power overnight (12 hours -- and it got down to 27 degrees outside) because a raccoon blew the transformer. Poor little guy knocked out 450 homes. 6 Feb 2009 5:50pm @Bookfool: You might enjoy reading what Stephen Phillips wrote about that...... Ohhhhhhhhh, losing power for 12 hours isn't fun! Poor little guy is right, but he didn't freeze! We're in our 22nd year in Florida and this is by FAR, the coldest winter we've had. We have underground wiring in our complex so we don't have those blown 'pots'. It was 26 at 7:00 and at 2:30 it's 60! Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdomcracking shot, but having that kind of lens does help when it comes to some types of photography. the speed you can take a shot helps you with the sharpness of your image. i had a 80-400 lens but it was very slow, but i thought it was me, but i changed it to what he has, the canon 100-400 L and i could not believe how my photography came on. 6 Feb 2009 6:14pm @Alun Lambert: Thank you, Alun; I really appreciate your comment for a number of reasons. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaI whistled wow, that is huge....I join you in wishing I could see the result! Sensational photo Judy :) 6 Feb 2009 6:36pm @Lorraine: Thanks, Lorraine. Col from Winnipeg, CanadaGotta love photographs of photographers. Gotta love that lens! :-) 6 Feb 2009 6:41pm @Col: And he doesn't know I took it ... I used my voyeur lens. :D njsux from Shrewsbury, NJ, United StatesLook at the writing on the camera, flash, and the photographer's cap. They are all mirror-image (backwards). That's what I meant. 6 Feb 2009 7:11pm @njsux: Ah, now I follow........that's because I was using my little voyeur lens; he didn't know I was shooting him! :D Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesNot lens envy, Judy - no, please - not you!?! It's not how close we get - it is what we do with what we've got. A great weekend to you. Enjoy. 6 Feb 2009 7:12pm @Stephen Phillips: Hi Stephen ... if you read some of the other comments, that's where the term came from, not from me. JJ from Jersey City, United StatesWonderful portrait of this guy at work, looks like a serious setup he has 7 Feb 2009 1:50am @JJ: Thanks, JJ. Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesImagine... that is one HUGE lens... though I have seen one bigger... you should went over and started talking cameras... :) He could out lens you... sorry... :) 7 Feb 2009 2:44am @Fliss: Oh, we talked quite a bit each time we ran into each other, but the conversation was usually on what we were shooting. @MAGDA: The envy of all of us, right? :D |
