Barbara from Florida, United States

I marvel at these images, to see this very young turtle, it almost doesn't seem real. Incredible, I would love to come across something like this. Belle seems to be suspicious of it as well. Great presentation.

@Barbara: Mike didn't want me to let Belle out, but I was sure she would only be curious. Even so, a ten-pound dog could still frighten a turtle so small. :D

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand

What clever photography judy!! i love it...a series of exquisite shots portraying a lovely story:-)

14 Jan 2009 7:15am

@Linerberry: Thank a lot!

14 Jan 2009 10:43am

@Betty: It was quite a find out in the grass!

Tracey from White Hall, United States

Little is right! What a brilliant idea to put the ruler in there. So smart, my friend!

14 Jan 2009 12:45pm

@Tracey: Tomorrow's is even better re: size!

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

I think Belle has captured a young eastern box turtle. These are wonderful little creatures; we had a grown one in our yard and Bella thought it was a kind of a ball. I rescued it from her clutches and carried it outside our privacy fence to a place in a drainage area where it might find food and safety. From this great series of photos, Belle seems to be much more likely to simply co-exist with the turtle. Nice series.

How are you feeling?

14 Jan 2009 12:57pm

@Viewfinder: I think you're right as to the type. I can almost see Bella trying to play with it. Belle is more timid. :D

I'm doing well, thank you ... went back to work Monday and will be glad when tomorrow brings my work week to an end. This weekend is the annual Brooksville Raid and I was primed to go ... but don't know if I have warm enough clothing to do it! :(

Ram from Bangalore, India

14 Jan 2009 2:28pm

@MJ: Tomorrow's is even better regarding its size. :D

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United Kingdom

Smashing shots, love the concentration on Belle's face...Funny to see a rule these days without metric measurements..

14 Jan 2009 2:47pm

@Jeff: METRIC? Here? :D

Check it out tomorrow, Jeff! <grin>

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

oh i love these shots, does little miss Timid have a real name? The 2 little terrapins i bought for the boys all died, and after that i told myself i'll never rear any animals again,in case i cause their deaths.:)

14 Jan 2009 3:35pm

@tyan: Oh yes, 'Miss Timid' is really our beloved Belle ...... a silver malti-poo.

I want to add that I hope you change your mind in the future about letting the boys raise some form of creature. They'll learn that dying is part of living, my sweet friend!

Bookfool from Mississippi, United States

What a wonderful little series! I love that you added a ruler.

14 Jan 2009 3:38pm

@Bookfool: Watch for its real size tomorrow! ;D

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Chris from South Jersey, United States

very cute shots - it looks like Belle isn't sure what to make of the turtle......I know my dog would probably be scared of it and bark her head off.....

14 Jan 2009 5:19pm

@Chris: Grinning ....... there wasn't any barking; you're right, she just didn't know what to make of it!

Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, Morocco

14 Jan 2009 7:53pm

@Marie-Hélène Ammor: Thank you so much.

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

A lovely set of images, but looking at the tiny turtle it certainly has a rough road ahead.

14 Jan 2009 10:02pm

@Observing: Thanks, Mike, and I agree ... it's a tough life out there for little turtles in these parts.

I hope you are on the mend!!!

Susan from Pompano Beach, FL, United States

What great catches all.....that poor little baby turtle.... he must have been petrified to have a pooch so much bigger staring him in the face!!

14 Jan 2009 11:14pm

@Susan: Thankfully, Belle was probably more nervous about the turtle than the turtle of Belle!

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Greta series of shots, I like how its like telling a story as you scroll down

15 Jan 2009 1:30am

@JJ: Belle is really timid and I thought this demonstrated that.

Stunner from Kingston, Jamaica

Lovely story-telling photos! The dogie looks so curious, lol!

15 Jan 2009 3:27am

@Stunner: Thank you, Stunner ... and you're so right!

EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United Kingdom

So cute, my friend had a turtle when I was a child and they painted their house number on it's shell because it was always wandering off down the road.

15 Jan 2009 5:11am

@EYES WIDE SHUT: What a cute idea ... putting the house number on it! :D

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

awwww so precious! so little.... not an easy life for this little guy. Great capture Judy!

15 Jan 2009 8:39pm

@Magda: I can just see your girls delighting at something like this! :D

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Oh yes! They would want to keep it, for sure! And how do you say "no" to their faces! (grin)

16 Jan 2009 1:33am

@Magda: I know what you mean!!! <grin>

Krisu from Tampere, Finland
