Osprey and supper...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 6 January 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Two more shots of yesterday's Osprey with its supper. The poor fish was still flipping its tail............. :(

PS: Thank you everyone, for your comments on yesterday's photo. I'm 'down' with a sinus infection.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

I am partial to the Osprey here and this is a magnificent image showing one with his meal. I like how you presented the two images together.
So sorry to hear you are not feeling well, Judy. I wish taking more photos could cure you but rest is the best.
Hope you feel better soon.

How I'd like to just rest, but I must go to work.....Pastor's away this week.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Hope you feel better quickly Judy. I like your osprey shots (and am glad to not be that fish)...

6 Jan 2009 12:50pm

@Viewfinder: I agree ... I am glad not to be that fish also!
(Osprey talons are curved like fishhooks, and the birds have an added feature of a reversible toe that allows them to have two toes forward and two toes back for better gripping. Osprey talons will reflexively snap closed when they come in contact with prey, and biologists report that the talons can snap shut faster than a human eye can blink.)

PS: Pastor is at the Congress for Evangelism in Nashville, so you know who must get to the office!

Amazing bird! My husband and I enjoy bird watching. Tara also developed an amazing eye for birds and knows all the birds that visit our backyard by their proper names.

8 Jan 2009 1:24am

@Magda: Thanks, Magda.
I'm impressed that you've taught Tara to identify them so early ... she'll never forget it.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Much clearer here the bird...I like its looks, seems rather defiant...

18 Jan 2009 11:01am

@Japanalia: I think "defiant" is a good word for him ... they eat only fish, so are adept fisher-birds! :D
