Osprey and supper...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 5 January 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Leaving Bayport after sunset, we spotted this Osprey landing on top of the telephone pole with its supper 'in hand'.
The fish was still flipping its tail............. :(

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Excellent "catch" here Judy. Amazing to see these birds of prey. The light gives scale to the size of these birds. Osprey are also called Fish Hawks since the eat primarily fish.

@Barbara: It really was a 'snatch' because he was moving ... and tomorrow will show two more shots.
I also got a video that night with Mike standing guard so that cars wouldn't hit me. :D

You caught t his osprey at an opportune moment; they are such regal birds, even if their fishy diet sometimes stinks. Nice photo.

You were very fast here!!! The captured movement in the bird is good! I wish I could see more of the fish.....but maybe this was a forced landing.

18 Jan 2009 11:00am

@Japanalia: I think the bird rushed his landing so he wouldn't lose his fish ... and the fish was still wiggling to get away!
