O Tannenbaum

Deutsch
Tannenbaum, Text: Ernst Anschütz, 1824

"O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur
zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!"

English
O Christmas Tree,
O Christmas Tree,
How steadfast are
Your branches!
Your boughs are green
In summer's clime
And through the snows
Of wintertime.
O Christmas Tree,
O Christmas Tree,
How steadfast are
Your branches!

So when do you take apart your beautiful tree and put it away for another year? The hustle and bustle is over for another year. I'm just praying that we all try and keep the peaceful, hopeful and loving feelings alive throughout the coming year. Back to work on Saturday for me and then full time next week. :-(

26 Dec 2008 7:23am

@Marion: Our tree stays up through Advent until Epiphany, and since that falls on a Tuesday, it may be up until the following weekend. We've been known to relish it until mid January some years. ♥

Today and tomorrow will be a quiet on and we will NOT be out shoping for 'bargains'. Sunday begins a new work week, but only until 1pm on Wednesday, then another long weekend to 'bask' in the glow of a New Year!

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

what a beautiful tree and lyrics to go with it,though i only understood the one in English. Thanks for sharing, sorry i was offline yesterday as Hub and i were down with gastric flu.Blessed Christmas to you and your beloved family!:)I'll leave 'happy new year' till next week!:)

26 Dec 2008 9:25am

@tyan: Thank you, Tyan ... I posted the German lyrics because as a young girl we sang it in German in school. :D
Sorry you and "Hub" were ill yesterday ... I hope the boys were busy and happy, needing less of your time.

Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, Morocco

What a beautiful big tree ...lights are wonderful .This tree is very elegant and marvellous !

26 Dec 2008 11:25am

@Marie-Hélène Ammor: I'm not sure how "elegant" it is; many of our ornaments are simple and homey, but the glass icicles do dress it up. Thank you very much!

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Wow and how you portrayed that Love, majestically, so beautiful Judy :)

Beautiful. Have a very great day-after, and one full of love. We're heading out to visit the Ringling Museum and Estate in Sarasota this morning.

26 Dec 2008 2:26pm

@Viewfinder: Thank you, Glenn.
Ah, you should have a beutiful day today - not as hot and steamy as yesterday. We'll be watching for new photos from your excursion.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Beautiful Judy. I just thought, as each ornament tells such a beautiful story, one that can be lost through the generations, I wonder if you have ever created a story list of each ornament. As I write I now think of an image with each story in a small book form to pass out to family.
This year my neighbor broke his last 80 year old ornament from when he was a child. It had such a history.

26 Dec 2008 3:33pm

@Barbara: Good suggestion, Barb ... maybe I should jot notes when it comes time to take the tree down and pack the ornaments away.
Yesterday we got a couple of photos taken of Kayla in front of their tree, and several ornaments we had given David for his tree were visible behind her. I like the idea of sharing them as the children are old enough to appreciate them. ♥

Chris from South Jersey, United States

27 Dec 2008 2:48am

@Fliss: Hi Fliss ... we did have a good Christmas day.
I had fun looking at your Mike & Fliss (or is it Fliss & Mike) website and looked at most of the family adoption sites - a warm and loving group. We're keeping Shauna in our prayers!

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

Magnificent tree Judy, but once it's gone everything looks so bare. NO bargain shopping for us either !!

27 Dec 2008 4:43am

@Observing: I know, when everything gets put away it is pretty bare, however our Florida sunshine brings and early spring and the azaleas usually bloom by February.

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Thank you for sharing a peek into your Christmas, and the Deutche version of O Tannenbaum, it made me cry when I sung it to myself...

7 Jan 2009 11:35pm

@Denise: I learned the German version when in school, and it's so beautiful in its first language.
Thank you for sharing your touching comment.
