"Oh, oh ... company!"

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 6 November 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Now this 'people food' had to be shared. We wondered if there would be a scuffle, but they seemed to take it in stride. They poked around a bit while I took the photos, but didn't eat many nachos. Then we stepped up to the ledge and removed the plate, and threw it away as its owners should have done in the first place.

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, Slovakia

Very nice detail and composition, Judy. I know these birds can be aggressive.

6 Nov 2008 5:32am

@Michael Skorulski: The calmness of these two, told me they got plenty to eat. ;(

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Well... lets party! LOL Great capture!
Pss... to make the heart you press Alt and 3 (on your right, not the top numbers)

6 Nov 2008 6:59am

@Magda: Thanks, Magda, for your comment and the tip ........... ♥

Betty from New Jersey, United States

I'm surprised that they didn't eat much of the nachos! Very nice composition, Judy! I love watching these birds!

6 Nov 2008 11:03am

@Betty: Thank you, Betty!

Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United States

Probably a little to much Chili on there for them and their little tongues... hehehehe... great shot...

6 Nov 2008 12:37pm

@Fliss: Thanks, Fliiss, and to be honest, I didn't examine just what was on the Nachos! :D

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

It's fantastic, wow lol for a second I turned my head trying to figure out how he was bending his body that way...lol fantastic duo, see how one decided the leaf was less greasy lol :)

6 Nov 2008 12:59pm

@Lorraine: I know what you mean ... they were overlapped in a way that made it difficult to know whose feet were who's!

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United Kingdom

Cracking shot of two fussy eaters,our gulls are getting to be a menace,snatching food out of peoples hands,ripping refuse bags open,it's getting like Hitchcock s The Birds. :>)

6 Nov 2008 2:58pm

@Jeff: Thanks, Jeff ... and thankfully there weren't many at this hotel. I suppose enough visitors (probably British) were feeding them that they didn't need to to too aggressive. ... I hope you know I'm kidding. ... ♥

PD from Overland Park, Kansas, United States

This is a fun shot Judy... good job!

6 Nov 2008 3:59pm

@PD: Thanks a lot!

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Haha! I'd call this one "Competition!"

6 Nov 2008 4:50pm

@Viewfinder: GOOD title substitute, VF!

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

it looked like it was just one bird, its scary to me when i see birds suffling for food like that, the sound their wings make and whether there are lots of fleas (?) flying when they flap their wings? LOL. Shivers. BUt I am glad you removed the plates.:)

thanks for your kind words at my blog.I guess i really need some kind of break.

6 Nov 2008 5:41pm

@tyan: It sounds that you are a bit more paranoid about birds in general than I am over here, Ty. I love to hear the flutter of their wings, and fleas? We have sand fleas, so walking in the sand is an equal issue.
This makes me think of my grandmother saying "you have to eat a peck of dirt before you die," and it kept me from worrying about 100% sanitation when our kids were growing up. ♥ ♥ ♥

MJ from Delaware, United States

This is great... I love the sharpness... and yes it was at Tarpon at the sponge docks.

6 Nov 2008 8:53pm

@MJ: Ahhhhhhh, what fun to be there on Dodecanese Boulevard in Tarpon Springs!

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

I can imagine there was much squawking going on!! Great shot Judy. The detail in their wings is really good. ♥!

6 Nov 2008 10:08pm

@Marion: Surprisingly, there wasn't ANY squawking ... they just quietly shared. :D
Than ks, Marion ... I appreciate your comment. ♥

MaryB from Staffordshire, United Kingdom

You got this shot spot on Judy, I've seen what these gulls can do too! infact it was so bad that they had lines up to stop the birds swooping on peoples food as they sat outside to eat. Still a few got through and it was bedlam lol One time we were sitting in another part of the island (Jersey Channel Islands) enjoying an ice cream. All of a sudden something pushed passed my shoulder and my sons Iced lolly was taken from him in one go, the stick was swallowed by the greedy gull too! lol

6 Nov 2008 11:20pm

@MaryB: Oh, Mary ... what a story you've shared.
I've seen (and photographed) gulls taking crackers from Mike's hand on the beach, and seen some digging into peoples' picnic foods that weren't secured, but never seen them quite so greedy. :D

Jen from Alpharetta, United States

Salsa Seagulls? LOL
great shot

7 Nov 2008 1:16am

@Jen: Great comment, Jen ... thanks!

vu@granby Gilles Martineau from Granby, Québec, Canada

Did you order those nachos to have a shot to the gulls? Anyway you did it, it's a great shot!

7 Nov 2008 2:21am

@vu@granby Gilles Martineau: Ha, ha ... no, we didn't order the nachos, but used the carelessness of others for the photo op! ;D

Barbara from Florida, United States

Great shot of the two of them. If you had not stepped up to remove the plate definitely more would arrive.

7 Nov 2008 4:46am

@Barbara: I fear you are correct, Barb!

Arash from Dubai, United Arab Emirates
