Winter 1962

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 5 October 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Sunday photo: this was taken in Milford, Connecticut, during a visit to my parents' home. I was pregnant with David here and Susan was 15 months old.

To think that little girl turns 49 next month and the little one within me lived until this spring ... unbelievable!

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

oh so sweet! What a romantic picture, though with kids,LOL, and the snow looked more like a studio backdrop than the real thing, haha!:)

5 Oct 2008 8:45am

@tyan: Thank you, Ty ... those were happy years and back then we loved the snow, but oh, the snowsuits, hats, mittens and boots were a chore to get on and off them. ;D

Amazing cherished memories in B&W. Beautiful family image.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

So many thoughts and memories run through my mind when I look at this picture. Vicki would have been just a few months old in the winter of 62. Such a beautiful shot Judy. Did you used to shake your kids into their snowsuits?? Vicki tells me that I did :D. I love that you are both focused on Susan. No wonder you moved to Florida. And this is probably the most disjointed comment that I have ever made....hugs xo

5 Oct 2008 5:52pm

@Marion: "Shake my kids into their snowsuits?" I'm not sure I follow, but I do remember Susan's first snowsuit zipped diagonally from one shoulder right down one leg; it was the easiest one to use!
Reading all the comments has me teary, because our dreams for David didn't last as long as we had wanted, but we're blessed to have Kayla. <sigh>

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

Beautiful photo Judy.... those images are worth their weight in gold. I remember the winter of 62 was cold and snowy in the UK too.

[Blessings]

6 Oct 2008 12:35am

@Observing: I'm smiling to think we both remember the winter of '62. Actually, the winter of '60/61 was even worse as far as snow goes. We had 4 feet+ = [1.3 meters]; that's a LOT of snow to shovel from a long driveway!

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Love it! Such sentimental value.... you can't put a price on something so precious as this! Thank you for sharing! This is wonderful... Brings some tears to my eyes.... You hit the spot!

6 Oct 2008 4:53am

@Magda: Thank you, Magda; those early years are so, so precious to us!

Another scene from a Doris Day movie, methinks. :>)

A beautiful family photo and the snow is beautiful too!

6 Oct 2008 2:13pm

@Eleftheria!: Snow is beautiful when you're young ... lots of work later on in age ... and COLD. *smile*
