You are trying so hard to talk!

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 30 July 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

She is beautiful and very gentle, but visitors are not allowed to pick her up.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

look at her eyes! They look so tender!:)

@tyan: Thanks, Ty ... I agree. I wanted to badly to pick her up and put her on my shoulder.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

I would think that would really stress her to have people picking her up. I love the gentle pink coloring of her feathers and the way you incorporated that into your framing. Beautiful job Judy.

30 Jul 2008 7:13am

@Marion: You are no doubt, correct, and that's why it isn't allowed. However, you can see by her posture, she would probably enjoy the handling.

Carlos Palma from San Juan, Philippines

Great framing! I can feel his feathers!

@Carlos Palma: Thank you very much, Carlos.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Tender eyes, tyan is right. And intelligent. Your excellent photo of this bird has captured a bit of her personality; plus you make me wish I could go there in person to meet her and see the other surroundings.

30 Jul 2008 12:01pm

@Viewfinder: She truly is a wonderful pet (I think) and is so connected to people as they talk to her.

Kylie Greenan from Richmond, Australia

Are visitors allowed to give her a little tickle on the head?, I couldn't help but touch here if I were there, she is a treasure. I love the beautiful soft colours of her feathers, you have captured her beautifully Judy!

30 Jul 2008 12:19pm

@Kylie Greenan: I wish visitors WERE allowed to pet them, and perhaps if not too many people are around, they do. She truly looks and acts like someone's pet. ... Thank you very much, Kylie.

Cute but that beak may hurt a little

30 Jul 2008 10:12pm

@Peter Miller: Yes, it could if she wanted to use it for harm. I personally think she'd rather kiss with it. ;D

Barbara from Florida, United States

Oh Judy, a magnificent image of a cockatoo. Excellent light and framing. It is really a perfect image. There may be liability reasons they do not allow the birds to be handled or touched. Animal instinct may say "I don't like this person" so I'll just take a finger off.
Also you never know what the human can pass along to a bird. Hand washing is very important. Instinctively birds do not show they are ill until they are very ill. Needless to say what the bird could give to a human.
I see one Amazon down at the beach, it's owner letting everyone, including small children handle the bird. I really feel sorry for the bird.

31 Jul 2008 4:09pm

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb; I really appreciate your 'bird-lover' comment!

Thank you also, for your keen insight into the health of the birds. I know so little about them other than the beauty I see and the personality they display.
