HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 4 July 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Long Branch, NJ This is the last of my fireworks series - thank you for all the generous comments, and for all of you in the United States, have a very happy, but more importantly, SAFE holiday weekend! *#*#* (Bang, boom!) Repeating what I posted on June 29th, fireworks were originally invented by the Chinese, for entertainment purposes, as a natural extension of the Chinese invention of gunpowder. America's earliest settlers brought their enthusiasm for fireworks to the United States. Fireworks and black ash were used to celebrate important events long before the American Revolutionary War. The very first celebration of Independence Day was in 1777, six years before Americans knew whether the new nation would survive the war; fireworks were a part of all festivities. In 1789, George Washington's inauguration was also accompanied by a fireworks display. This early fascination with their noise and color continues today. (from Wikipedia) Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits. ---~--- Philippians 4:13 'We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.' ... <*}}}><

Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanExtraordinary display, Judy, captured most beautifully!!! My compliments! I look forward to the fireworks show in our community at the end of this month when there's the Summer Festival. Not that I can capture them - have no knowledge of the technique - but I do enjoy the glittering show! 6 Jul 2008 6:04am @Japanalia: Thank you so much, Gabriela. That little camera that I had back then was wonderful for fireworks. I tried it again Friday evening and had fair results; you can see them here. Check to see if your camera has any fireworks scene setting and then do enjoy your "glittering show"! Angelica from Nashville, TN, United StatesGreat job! Fireworks (and any night shot) are very tricky to capture sometimes. Lots of patience! Well done! 27 Jul 2008 3:35pm @Angelica: Thank you, Angelica ... some cameras include a fireworks setting and mine worked well. |
