Good vantage point...

Thank you, Glenn; this is named the SUNSHINE SKYWAY.
This "cable-stay" bridge is a truly beautiful structure; it has a main span of 1200 feet and a vertical clearance of 193 feet. It is equipped with a bridge protection system involving 36 large concrete bumpers called dolphins that are built to withstand an impact from any errant ships in the vicinity of the bridges piers. At night, strategically placed lights add an additional touch of beauty.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Just look at those clouds. Beautiful. The bridge is really quite an architectural feat. Love the composition of this shot Judy.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

This would be the place we'd choose...sit and watch the water go by! This is one of the many I liked in your album!

28 Jun 2008 11:57am

@Japanalia: Bring lightweight clothing, plenty of sun screen and a very large umbrella, then you could spend the day right there!

If anyone else is curious about the album you spoke of, they can click here.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Aaahhh! The Sunshine Skyway - it's about the prettiest bridge this side of the Golden Gate that I have ever seen. That one that crosses the Great Lakes, the Macinac (sp) is pretty impressive, too. But I love seeing this one whenever we go north to Tampa/St.Pete. We'll be doing that more often now, as our youngest daughter has moved from home to Tampa (last weekend)...

28 Jun 2008 12:40pm

@Viewfinder: Thanks, Glenn ... and I agree, it is a beautiful bridge, especially in some late day shots I have seen with the sun shining on it. Maybe you'll be able to time a trip so you can get west and down to Fort DeSoto for some early evening shots before you head over the bridge to get home.
I'm glad to hear your daughter found a place - not an easy feat.

MJ from Delaware, United States

Barbara from Florida, United States

Very beautiful view of the Sunshine Skyway. I like the composition here with the trees, umbrella and angle of the shoreline.
The clouds are impressive.
Well done Judy.

28 Jun 2008 2:16pm

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb.

PS: How do you keep yourself away from there? ;D

Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South Africa

What a great shot Judy!! It makes me glad knowing I will soon be the one with the Great view of the beach!!! :) Lovely shot. I'll catch up with you after my holiday at the beach is over! :)

28 Jun 2008 2:30pm

@Mandy Provan: Oh goody ... we'll get to see more beach photos - probably with the children and that handsome hubby too!

Chris from South Jersey, United States

That looks like a relaxing place to sit and read a good book. I really like the composition in this - even though the horizon is in the center (which I normally don't like), this works really well with the bridge there and the nice balance between beach, clouds, and the two trees on the left. Beautiful.....

28 Jun 2008 2:40pm

@Chris: I appreciate you comment, Chris. I tried cropping the photo in different ways, cutting off some of the sandy bottom portion, but then the lady's chair was 'falling out of the photo'. The sky above the clouds showing was so light and washed out that didn't need to be included, yet I wanted the whole bridge - a dilemma for sure.

PS: I'm posting photos that are 800 pixels wide and am wondering if they are coming through any poorer than posting large images. I found saving smaller files in my AM3 folder makes a huge difference but I don't want to jeopardize the quality of the photo.

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

THe clouds look gorgeous, and the distant bridge is so beautiful to look at.Can imagine the excitement driving across the bridge!

28 Jun 2008 3:48pm

@tyan: Thank you, Ty ... it's quite a thrill to drive over it as it is very, very high over the water.

Ina from Krugersdorp, South Africa

Fantastic! Will trade places with he person in the chair anytime! (not her life, just the place :)))

28 Jun 2008 5:06pm

@Ina: I understand ... I looked at the large file and she's older than you want to be just yet! ;D
