I'm soaring...

Overhead at Fort DeSoto Park, Tierra Verde, FL

This was only one of many Laughing Gulls that swooped and dived overhead, probably because we were eating our picnic lunch. Many birds live in this remote area - what a playground it is for them.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, Slovakia

A very nice composition with the gull placed in the corner like that. Excellent detail and color.

@Michael Skorulski: Thank you, Michael.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

Excellent capture Judy. Your gulls are so different than the West Coast variety. Do they make a noise like a laugh? Is that why they are called laughing gulls? I like the composition and the framing for this. xoxox

24 Jun 2008 5:08am

@Marion: These laughing gulls with their black heads are not the type we saw in New England either. Looking at our bird book tough, we see many different types. Their 'call' is different, but I wouldn't call it laughter. ;D

@Lorraine: I like the light behind his feathers too and was lucky to stop him in flight as he was moving very quickly overhead.

This may be my all-time favorite gull shot, ever. You really caught the essence of its graceful flight Judy. It's beautiful.

@Viewfinder: Thank you, Glenn ... your comment is greatly appreciated. He really 'spoke' to me.

PS: I don't think I've shared w/you that our Belle has a pretty bad heart murmur and tonight she had a coughing spell, which is a sign of stress, and I immediately thought of your Bella. Dogs leave paw prints on our hearts!

debra from Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States

So nice! The lighting on the feathers creates a great outline, and the branches/leaves in the corner mimic the feathers. Well done!

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

A most uplifting capture!!! Good to be a bird.......but not a hungry one!

25 Jun 2008 12:37pm

@Japanalia: Thankfully, the birds do find ample food, either naturally or from giving humans.
