@Michael Skorulski: Thank you, Michael - I was surprised myself when I saw them.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

Beautiful detail, but my curiosity is really aroused. Is this the back of a peacock, or are these just feathers from different birds. Come on Judy, you got to tell me. :D

18 Jun 2008 6:07am

@Marion: You are CORRECT - you win a feather! <grin>
The next three days are posted ahead and are also of him; I was amazed at the beauty close up. I also remember at about age 5, being nipped on my bottom by one as it chased me around a tree stump. Heaven knows what would have happened had I stood still. My father came to my rescue in his friend's yard, thank goodness.

Ronnie 2¢ from London, United Kingdom

I know these birds well and agree that the patterns and shimmering in those feathers are endless . . and, yes, they bite! Looking forward to the set.

18 Jun 2008 7:16pm

@Ronnie 2¢: Thanks, Ronnie, for your comment and the confirmation on their bite!

Veronelle from Lens, France

Nice bird colours

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

I think the green feathers individually look like a cat eye; together like a herd of cats' eyes. It's a cool photo Judy; it "rocks!"

18 Jun 2008 11:53pm

@Viewfinder: Hmm, cats' eyes - intereresting.
As for "rocking", well that's one (modern) way of stating it. <grin>

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

I must admit that this peacock has quite an abstract piece of art on its back, the patterns are so beautiful!!! You took a very good shot, Judy! Years ago I had the chance to be in a small zoo at the time when the males show off for the females around and I came to see not only great performances of fan-like-opening tails, but I could also hear "the music" they make! (the peahens looked not at all impressed, though!)

19 Jun 2008 10:45am

@Japanalia: It sounds as though you had a very good experience with them, Gabriela.
These birds are very interesting and the poor peahens are devoid of the beauty. They do seem to be a "cocky" bird; I wonder if that is where they got their name. *smile* As for their "music", we only heard their very loud 'squawking'.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Very interesting angle to capture this magnificent detail. I can only guess at how you accomplished this angle.
The patterns and different colors of the feathers are amazing. Great shot!

19 Jun 2008 4:56pm

@Barbara: He came to a fence near the entrance of Weeki Wachee park, where some of the workers feed them. He was hanging around looking for a few crackers. I simply looked down over the fence - right place at the right time! ;D
