Yosemite National Park - 1984

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 18 May 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Per requests, I am posting this original version of my scanned photo, in color. It is surely not the quality of our new cameras, but it's still a favorite shot. If only ... well, you know the rest..........

Observing from Chester, United Kingdom

It looks a wonderful place to explore, and the waterfall is a great feature.

18 May 2008 9:48am

@Observing: Thank you for your comment. You are so correct; it is the most wonderful place to explore. Yosemite is home to countless waterfalls check this link to see more of them.

Very grand and lovely scenery. Well photographed.

Chris from South Jersey, United States

Nice to see this shot in color - but I think I prefer the b&w (reminds me of Ansel Adams). I have been photographing waterfalls in Oregon this weekend and should have some shots this week of what I have seen!

18 May 2008 2:04pm

@Chris: Far be it for ME to compare myself to the likes of Ansel Adams, but that was who I was thinking of when I did the b&w filtering. <grin>

Can't wait to see your OR photos!

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

umm, I like it. Thanks for posting it in color. So pretty, love the waterfall. I still think we should go back ;D. Hugs, Marion

18 May 2008 3:49pm

@Marion: If I could only come up with the tickets, I'm THERE! *smile*

Amir from Tehran, Iran

Great shot, is this really 30 years old?

18 May 2008 4:10pm

@Amir: You got me thinking and it was taken in 1984, not 1980, so I've changed the title.
It was the year of our 25th anniversary and this is a scan of a 5 x 7" print. A 20 x 30" print hangs in our bedroom.

Ina from Krugersdorp, South Africa

Beautiful!

Karthik from Boston, United States

great capture Judy..Yosemite is one of the most amazing places!! So inspirational and beautiful..was that taken from inspiration point? I have a few shots of that in B&W as well..i guess everyone who has been to Yosemite has them..

18 May 2008 5:32pm

@Karthik: Thanks for your comment. This was taken, not from Inspiration Point, but before you enter the park.
I've heard/read it referred to as the "Tunnel View", which I feel in apropos. I posted a B&W of it a week ago, but had a couple of inquiries for it in color, hence today's.

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

Great image, a place i realy would like to go walking here

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

I love that out of focus pine branch in the upper left; it really adds something to the overall beauty and "feel" of the place for me. Nice work, Judy. And thanks for the very nice comments you left over at my site today. Also, very glad my habitual Sunday "SDG" inspired you to do some research. I often end my Sunday sermons with that statement, in English.

18 May 2008 8:02pm

@Viewfinder: Thank you for your reply. I've meant to check out your Sunday 'signature' before and never did; today was the day and I'm happy I did. Our Trinity Sunday sermon was tied right into the J.W. Moore theme for today's SS lesson - coincidence? NO! Have a blessed week!

MaryB from Staffordshire, United Kingdom

Simply stunning Judy, I can only dream of visiting such an amazing location. Thank you for sharing this with us.

18 May 2008 11:34pm

@MaryB: Thank you, Betty .... and that's what I think when I see photos of the UK.

Dylan from Delhi, United States

I like how you included the pine branch in the shot.

19 May 2008 1:24am

@Dylan: Thanks, Dylan. I agree that the pine in the foreground helps frame the photo.

Emilio Garcia from Pleasanton, United States

Great picture of a wonderful locale. Your scanned photograph does justice to this gorgeous national park. Thank you for you comment as well.

Herbert from Meerkerk, Netherlands

I have been there as well in the period without digital camera's! Thanks for the link in your comments to show some recent pictures of the HALF DOME! It was beautiful up there back in 1999!

19 May 2008 4:23am

@Herbert: Thank you, Herbert. I'm glad you were able to visit Yosemite. It is one of my favorite national parks in the US and we've seen a number of them. HALF DOME is such a wonderful object for photos.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Incredible place, thank you Judy you just saved me airfare with this beautiful image.

21 May 2008 3:45am

@Barbara: Chuckle... don't pass up the chance to go there, though - it truly is incredible!

Bill Brown from California, United States

Very nice, I like the touch the foreground tree branch brings to the image.

12 Mar 2009 4:47pm

@Bill Brown: Thanks, Bill.
Living this far away, we'll probably never get back there, so I'm glad to have this old film image.
