AMARYLLIS

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 30 April 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

From one day to the next - joined together.

This is the third year in a row that this bulb has bloomed; now it needs to be re-potted.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Did you keep it in the same pot for three years in a row????? Please, explain, as mine are back to stage one.....that is I had to cut the leaves to a little bit above the bulb and I put them outside on the balcony where they have plenty of light. But........I don't know what to do,take the bulbs out or keep them in the pots or throw them(???????????)

4 May 2008 8:31am

@Japanalia: Yes, Gabriela, the bulb stayed in the pot, which Mike set into the ground in the back yard. It was watered once each week by our sprinkler system and whatever rain we had. I cut only the flower stalk, not the leaves; I let them wither and die - not sure if that's right, but that's what I did. When it showed the start of green leaves, we brought it onto the porch so we could water and watch it. ... Study online, whether you should take the bulb out and let it dry, and store it in a cool, dark place, or if you should leave it in the pot.

NOW, we have learned that the bulb is outgrowing the pot and must be set in the ground or moved to a larger pot.
