In 2003, Bridget underwent a Whipple procedure (pancreatoduodenectomy), for the removal of a baseball-sized malignant tumor in her pancreas, at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia). --- Bridget remarked, during her lengthy recovery period, that when she looked down at her scar, she saw a smile. With that attitude, this young lady is pursuing a career in medicine. --- It's an understatement to say we love her very much, and we are so proud of her accomplishments!
PS: See yesterday's post for another photo of Bridget.

That's what I call spunk. Bridget is an exceptional girl, but I believe that the trials and tests that we go through either make us or break us and needless to say, Bridget came through this one all the better for it.

@Marion: Her surgery experience is what drove her toward studying for something in the medical profession. She's working so hard, but loving it.
Inspiring! Best wishes to Bridget! Way to go girl.... rock on the world and live life to the fullest!

@Sriram: Thank you so much, Sriram!
Such courage in one so young, and her smile is resplendent (I can't remember how to spell it :) You show The strength of family unity beautifully ...

@Mandy: Thank you, Mandy . . . we pray for her health daily, hoping she has no residual cancer! If attitude can help beat the odds, she'll do it!

@Viewfinder: We believe so too, VF ... you'd really love her!
I have enjoyed your family series and this one is most unusual!! Your granddaughter has a great attitude - she will go places with that spirit!! Our daughter had surgery (on her heart) many years ago at CHOP - it is a great hospital. God bless you and yours Judy!!

@Chris: God bless your daughter (and your family) too, Chris.
CHOP is really a special place. When Bridget's dad started hunting for the "top pediatric pancreatic surgeon", a professional friend on the west coast and another in Buffalo, both came up with the same name, Dr. Scott Adzick - who was at CHOP and had already seen Bridget.
God is good!
An amazing story you share for such a beautiful young lady. Viewfinder said it well, "Bridget is one for whom God has great plans". She has a wonderful future ahead full of greatness. Blessings.

@Barbara: Thank you, Barb. Obviously we're very proud of her, but without God's help, where would she - or we, be?
This has been a month of reflections from all angles ... and it is time to move on. David would want it that way and with God's help, we can!
Good attitude!

@Ina: That is is!
Showing off some war wounds?? ;-)

@Claus: That's one way to say it. :D
She battled cancer, so I guess that is a 'war' - and is a survivor!
Wow, incredible story. I am so glad this beautiful young woman was able to recover and live a normal life.
