A wonderful model...

Posted by Judy (Brooksville, Florida, United States) on 22 January 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This gentleman was such a willing model at last Saturday's 28th annual Brooksville Raid - a Civil War Reenactment.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog; your comments are greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting to all of your posts. I will visit as time permits.

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, Slovakia

Super portrait. I thought I was looking at the real thing for a second. That pipe is priceless.

Barbara from Florida, United States

EXCELLENT! Absolutely beautiful portrait. The clarity and color along with skin tones are perfect. He looks so authentic, the pipe is definitely interesting. Captured very well Judy.

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb.
It was such fun and he was a 'lovely' man, if that is 'fitting' for a gentleman!

Chris from South Jersey, United States

He certainly plays the part well, with the sideburns and all! Great color and use of depth of field. Have you tried converting to sepia to see if you could make it look like it was taken in 1865?

22 Jan 2008 2:26pm

@Chris: I hadn't tried that, Chris, until you mentioned it, but now I have ..... it's good! ... Thank you!

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

He might have been the real thing...who knows (?!) Because he really looks so REAL!

22 Jan 2008 3:42pm

@Japanalia: He was truly a gentleman ....... as I've stated in earlier responses, Gabriela, a joy to capture!

Photographs by M.E. from Encino, United States

Superb portrait shot. Its like shot back in time.

@Photographs by M.E.: I appreciate you comment, M.E. ...... it was a joy to witness!

Marion Headrick from Canada

What a great shot Judy. Such character in his face. Ray was saying that some of the men actually grow their hair and beards and keep them like that all year long just so they can participate in the "raid" and make it look authentic. Very cool.

22 Jan 2008 6:10pm

@Marion Headrick: MANY of the fellows take on the persona of the Civil War soldiers and can't wait to partake, whenever and wherever, at many locations in the eastern states.

Graham Russon from Cape Town, South Africa

A great shot, I particularly like the out of focus background. Agree with Chris's comment. A black and white with a vignette frame would add a whole new dimension to this shot.

@Graham Russon: Thank you, Graham ... watch for tomorrow's sepia-toned image. You may like it.

Porcsin from Debrecen, Hungary
